I got all the info about the new Generals yesterday from my supplier as I'm the fitting agent in my area for them & im not too keen on the tread pattern of the Grabber AT3 compared to the the AT2.

Awaiting a road test on the new AT3s and see if the sidewalls are any better than the AT2s, which many people had problems with, as a weak spot when going off road. Whistle John

The AT3 looks to be a useful tyre if for no other reasons than it's a winter-rated off-road capable tyre. As a "fit one for all situations" it should fit the bill nicely. The current Grabber AT has been very good off road although it is prone to sidewall damage. I've had a couple of issues although only one cause air to leak and that was a bit of flint picked up whilst driving on road anyway. Had another where a big rock in the verge hit the sidewall and rim protector and dug right down to the cords but the tyre held. Neither were technically "off road" issues. At the LR Party in Spain I did pick up a couple of nicks but they appear to be surface only and of no issue. That was on mostly loose stone tracks and clambering over some chunks. They did pretty well I reckon.

What is strange is that the new tyres are generally 3 ply sidewalls except the non-Defender LR fitments which are 2 ply. I wonder why. 2008 TDV8 - it's a labour of love

Well took the plunge. Not bad at 134 each. Fitted the bigger 255 55 19s as opposed to 50s. Much better ride. The car feels a little more like a Range Rover on the bigger tyres. Only a little dabble off road so far, down a very wet grassy and rutted track and as expected no issues.

Just been to Wales & back on my new AT3s. Much smoother ride, noisier on the concrete section of the M25 & flops into corners, so feels a bit less stable than 50s on road tyres. Happy for the ride though & once you get used to it, flopping is liveable with even if slightly disconcerting. Didn't give them any real challenges, just up a bank when a local came hooning around the corner on a single track road in his pickup...

It may firm up the ride if you use Dynamic mode, personally leave this on all the time on road. John

I cannot find any size info for this new tyre - I'm looking for a set in 20 or 21" to fit an L494 - those sizes are important as I already have wheels and don't really want to to buy yet another set of 19's (if they will even fit on an HSE Dynamic L404).
Tyrefitter do you know if they are available in 20 or 21" sizes? 2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, preceeded by a 2.7SE RRS, a 3.6TDv8 RRS, several FFRR's and 2 Evoques.
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW.... my fun car to enjoy bashing and denting 20 years old and still giving loads of fun

Yes Tim they do them in 275/40r20 & also do the 45's for the ones wanting a better ride Thumbs Up
Supplier says they aren't doing the 21's as their isn't that many cars on 21's to warrant making them yet.
