Wobble

Hi guys,

In recent months I've had a few problems with my car notably rally hard ride and wobbly wheels since having its rear arc unit and propshaft replaced earlier this year. I took some advice on here and purchased a Iid gap tool and re-calibrated my suspension. I then took the car to elite wheels in reading for a proper alignment/balance.

The result is remarkable. The car is riding like a dream again, esp on motorways when is like a magic carpet. So all good. However, despite wheels being balanced a million times, I still have steering wheel shake/wobble at speeds approx 55/70mph both accelerating and braking. The front discs and pads were warped and changed a couple of months ago and have been checked and apparently ok. Since the re-balancing, the wobble is slightly better but still there.

I'm thinking that maybe a suspension component was damaged when my rear propshaft shattered back in march, but so far no one has found anything inc rob at rovertune who is pretty hot at finding this stuff. The wheels are new and not buckled and wheel nuts etc are tight.

Anyone got any suggestions as to what it might be? To be honest having sorted the ride I am less worried about this as I don't do too much motorway driving, but would like to get sorted so car is perfect again....

I had this on mine, cured by new bushes and a steering rack. The beauty of Land Rover Warranty
There is a TSB for this LTB00400. This one was for NAS spec cars, so suited me as mine is LHD

What's the approximate cost of a new rack? I have a good warranty, but unless the part has failed I suspect I will need to cough up for it (assuming that's the problem)... 2010 TDV8

I think my Warranty bill was circa €3k In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

So IF it failed the MOT then I Guess it would be covered. But first of all check all the wishbone bushes etc. The simple test I did on mine, have the car rolling along circa 5 MPH and jab the brake pedal on and off fiercely (short hard jabs) if you can hear any clonk or clang, then check all the bushes prior to going down the rack route. Thumbs Up

Thanks mate. Is in with Rovertune for a look in a week or so. I'll see what they say, but you are right that the best scenario would be to fail the mot as I have cover.... 2010 TDV8

I will indeed. Was looked at before by both him and Newbury 4*4 and neither could diagnose as all looked OK, nothing loose etc. Having said that, I was questioning my air suspension at the time too. Now that appears to have been resolved with a hunter alignment and suspension recalibration it only leaves this issue which may help, so let's see.

Interestingly I was speaking to rob a week or so ago as I was getting the wheels done and he has flogged his sport. Said it was having too many problems! He's driving a merc amg now, but fills you with confidence when the lr specialist won't have one.... 2010 TDV8

In with rovertune today. They don't know what it is. Apparently my front discs (recently replaced with pads) were very hot. Also they said they couldn't rotate the wheels freely when up on ramp. The new discs and pads I have are apparently aftermarket (fitted by Newbury 4*4).

Leaning towards some kind of binding, but no one seems sure. Being investigated further tomorrow. I asked about calipers, but apparently they seem OK....

Any clues at all? 2010 TDV8

My thought too, but less than 2k miles? The ones before were warped too but were genuine. Could that be indicative of another issue?if it is warped discs I guess I need to foot the bill as let them fit aftermarket ones (not that I knew, I assumed Newb 4*4 used genuine parts)....

On way to pick up. New (proper) pads and discs and a good clean of various bits filled with grease. Will report back, but am so used to being disappointed and problem still being there that I darent get any hopes up! 2010 TDV8

Just got back. Much better. No wobble on light braking and much less vibration on acceleration. So all in all, expensive but worth it.

When I got back the brakes were pretty hot though despite the fact I am relatively light on them. So am going to give a week or two as the aftermarket set were fine for a few weeks and then went all wobbly.

All in though, a happy camper for now!
