United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black

I was still in 2 minds on the day of the install as I really want to hear one in person on a supercharger as I did not want it too loud or sounding boy racerish so ended up just changing the tips to the AB tips for now as Im going through an AB conversion at the mo.

I really do still want to unleash more sound though Laughing

Do u get any loud drone noise on the motorway/top end speeds when cruising at a steady speed?

I also looked into the x pipe and was advised the centre box behind the resonator is doing the same thing as an x pipe and wont really benefit any change so really wasnt worth changing.

What exhaust tips did u fit? Any pics? RRS SUPERCHARGED, 22 INCH ALLOYS, JAVA BLACK, FULLY COLOUR CODED

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged HST Java Black

No, I was nervous like you because i didn't want it really loud. Its reasonably quiet at idle, but you can tell its a V8 now as opposed to the silence before. Accelerating gives more noise, the harder you accelerate, the louder it is. Driving at a steady speed at 30 is completely silent, i think its quiet at motorway speeds, i'll get back to you on that next time I drive it.

I have the HST, so I had the original tips put back on, so it looks standard from the outside. Google HST if you don't know what it looks like, I think it similar to the AB style.

Good news for me on the X pipe then if the mid box does the same thing! 2006 Java Black HST Supercharged

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Santorini Black

I've just bought this one:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Range-Rover-Spor...7675.l2557

I'm away next week so won't be able to fit it until the first weekend in November. The chap who owned it said that it was quiet at idle but roars when you open the throttle. He also said that it was fine on the motorway.

He'd taken it off to get another system made by the same people that was louder and a larger diameter, apparently his friends no complain about the drone when he's cruising haha.

The new exhaust is on, I was worried it would be too loud as it only has 1 can instead of the stock 4. There are times when the revs are just at the right range where there is certainly a bit of drone but it's not very often. The most notable is at around 60mph, not an issue really though I either do 55 or 65 and it's fine, cruising on the motorway at 70mph and it sounds the same as a stock exhaust.
The engine has a nice bark and burble when you first start it and it sounds like a V8 should do, when the engine is idling it's a little louder than stock but nothing too noticable and certainly nothing you wouldn't expect from a V8, when you open the throttle though it roars, the sound when pulling away from the lights is glorious haha.

So all in all I would say that the single can in the centre of the chassis is as loud as you would want to go, it's kind of an offset between a bit of drone from time to time and having a throaty note when under acceleration.

The weight saving are amazing, The new exhaust I could easily lift with 1 hand, the stock exhaust I would say is close to three times the weight. I drove from Somerset to Lancashire to fit the exhaust (long story), going up the car was loaded out with myself, the wife, our daughter and all the crap that goes along with a family weekend away from home. The journey up we used just over 3/4 of a tank on the way back we had a few more bits and pieces but used just over 1/2 a tank so I'm very impressed so far.

I did manage to melt the bumper a little though as the exhaust sits too high Big Cry Luckily the damage was done underneath wher it can't be seen haha.

Australia 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Bonatti Grey

Hi from down under,
I have 2006 RRS s/c 4.2. When I got it (secondhand) it had already had the factory rear Resonators removed and replaced with short 3" chrome exhaust tips including resonators. If I can I will upload some photos later.
Its still pretty quite but has a burble at idle. Smile
Interesting about the 'shell' being a big resonator.
Regarding the question re X crossovers. All V8 engines normally have a balance pipe between the exhausts in a H shape.
They found that although this helps the shape doesn't do much for gas flow. Someone thought it out and came up with the X idea where the gases are not forced at right angles interferring with the overall flow.
Therefore X crossover has much better flow = better performance and fuel economy. Cool 2006 4.2 S/C with Tow Pack, Side Steps, DRL's, 19" & 20" wheels, additional 110 ltr Fuel Tank Roof Rack and performance mods.

Well its been nearly 18 months since my last post on this subject.

Remembering that when I got the RRs the rear resonators had been removed and replaced by big short tips.
I recently took the step of having the Tortise Shell muffler ? removed and replaced by 2 straight thru pipes.
This left only the front muffler in place.
Wow what a differance Surprised Sounds like a V8 now almost as loud as my Pontiac LeMans when it arrived with only the rear resonators and no mufflers.
Not sure whether it would pass our 92 decibal limit but I will keep it as is for a while before deciding whether to quiten it down a bit by fitting small 'Hot Dog' resonators at the back. 2006 4.2 S/C with Tow Pack, Side Steps, DRL's, 19" & 20" wheels, additional 110 ltr Fuel Tank Roof Rack and performance mods.

Hi, as its been a while since posting on this subject. I have only had the twin pipe centre muffler on the car for the last year or so

. It was great but had a bit of drone at certain speeds. This did not worry me as otherwise the sound was great and I did not do any really long trips. Neutral
Well I planned a very long trip (6740 klms) towing a caravan. I had some experiance of what it would be like when I picked up the caravan about 200 klms from home.
The extra power required to tow the van (2 ton) and the speed meant that I would be in the 'drone zone" for long periods of time. So I tried to soften the drone by refitting 2 'hotdog' resonators at the back without killing the 'note'. Idea
It worked quite{quiet}well.
So I just thought I would pass this on. It seems that with the one front muffler(snail removed}and the two rear resonators fitted I have found the best overall combination (for me). It still might be too loud as I pass you under power. Rolling with laughter

P.s. I had passed a Semi towing the van at about 115-120 kph and the driver came over at the next stop and said what a beautiful sound. Thumbs Up 2006 4.2 S/C with Tow Pack, Side Steps, DRL's, 19" & 20" wheels, additional 110 ltr Fuel Tank Roof Rack and performance mods.

Best combination

So just to confirm if all parts of the exhaust were stock eg, snail box, then box after snail box and the 2 smaller boxes just before the tips, the best combination for the V8 rumble and less or no drone would be just to remove and replace the snail box with 2 stright pipes Thumbs Up RRS SUPERCHARGED, 22 INCH ALLOYS, JAVA BLACK, FULLY COLOUR CODED

That’s what I did on my 4.2 SC (removed the resonator box after first collector box and connected 2 straight pipes to rear exhausts) and the V8 sound is glorious!
It is loud but on low revs it’s sociable. Obviously there is a bit more drone but that’s what the stereo is for!

2005 4.2L Supercharged Java Black - gone but was my first love.

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

How does these mods affect the MOT now that the emissions rule has changed?
