Dreaded suspension fault, what's best?

Ok on my road trip to London today, no warning just yellow light comes up on the dashboard a little tone and the warning normal ride height only suspension fault.

Now I've read the faults and fixes so I'm hoping it's the compressor cap that's cracked. So is it best to just change the cap and o ring, or a complete kit with new filters and drying granuals.

So either

I have just had the same light on, and a noisy compressor sound.

So taking a punt on the DIY refurb vs new unit. The kit I have opted for £69

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/121722499240

Contains the piston ring sets, if your taking it off might as well hedge overhaul the unit.
Don't forget captive nuts, probably rusted. £4

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/122098077362

50/50 chance I am told the pipes don't come out the compressor so need cutting off, thats another £30 kit,

Thanks for them, Think I'm going to just replace the cap for now, I can't hear my compressor, well it's definately not abnormal sounding if that makes sense, plus I havnt got a jack yet so I could just about get underneath it to get the cover off. Although the single 10mm bolt snapped straight off, the 2 others Ho,ding the cover on we're t30 torx so a good soak in wd40 and they came out easy as pie.

Nope changed my mind, just ordered a complete rebuild kit, looks simple enough. Just need to try borrow a jack now.lol

Just a quick one though if I remove the cap will my suspension drop if it's set at off road height?

Found out, nope it won't due to inline 1 way valves.

Please ensure it's a good jack and use axle stands to, don't rely on the jack on its own. The jack must be a minimum 3 Ton capability one to lift vehicle safely. Use the blocks each side of wheel other corner to ensure it won't roll (normally part of tool kit in boot section under floor.) Smile John

Well jack arrived today, and so I set to work removing the compressor, I persevered and removed all the airlines with out the need to cut and add connectors, just took a wee bit of wd40 and patience. Fitted the replacement filters, granuals and cap easily but trying to match up the o rings, all I can guess is I got sent the wrong ones as not one matched! They were either too big too small or to thin! So I ended up just replacing the piston seal liner and chamber gasket, and gave up with o rings. I did try contacting them but with time not on my side I just had to get it back together and on the car.

Anyways it's all back together, nice and quiet fully functioning and no error messages. So I'm one happy chappy once more.
Also re aligned the red cover of my side step, noticed it had dropped due to a few missing an corroded rivets. So all lined up and fastened again.

Hi guys,

can you please PM with the link on where to get this. Think my suspension has given way this morning. The rear back suspension lowered as i was driving with the warning suspension lights coming on....now the rear back suspension will not raise. The front ones looks to be in the normal position but looks like the compressor is dead is its not working when i press normal/lower/off-road mode.

I've used one of those icarsoft LR II diagnostic tools and got this showing

C1A20
Pressure increases too slow when filling reservoir

Found similar repair kit but the guy no longer sells them.

thanks

Hi steve,

I didn't want to risk it Luckily I was looking for parking in an off-street. So I just parked it and called AA to come and recover with a flatbed truck back home.

It surely can drive but I could feel it dragging at the back and something was wrong.....that was how i got to know about the rear lowered down.

Hi, just got your pm and have sent the links from where I got the above kits, yours looks like far worse than mine, I just had the light come on, first I would get someone to try raise and lower it and you listen to hear if your compressor is actually working, if not check fuses etc otherwise it then may be a case of a new or replacement motor or complete unit. If it is working, then ide follow the pipes incase one has split, again it's a case for listening for air leaks or use a high soapy solution and mist it over the pipes, any leaks will cause bubbles.
May be easier to remove the cover of the air compressor to see and be able to hear better.
