Service at the Main dealer or independednt garage

My main dealer wants £450 for my 1st service. Meanwhile, I found a private Service garage who would do the same thing for £149. Are there any issues regarding Servicing at the Main dealer or private garage?

Where do you chaps do yours? Independent or Main dealer?

That is rather steep for a 1st service. What part of London do you live in? 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

As it's still within warranty, I would stick with the main dealer.

But £450 is very expensive. I paid £320 for my first service, but I know others have got it cheaper than that. Worth having a ring around.

Don't pay more than £300 Shocked

Also independant dealers/service engineers etc will not have direct access to LR for upgrading anything online. It's all computers these days.

I live in North West London. The area which experienced a tornado this morning.

Do you know any main dealer that will charge less?

I would say take it to a dealer as there are not so many independants who have the facilities to do all the latest ECU upgrades and other mods that may be pending for your car. Also would you not be voiding the 3 years warranty by taking it to an independant - I assume you are considering a Land Rover specialist independant. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Im a main dealer for Isuzu marine engines, this year i had a situation with people doing there own servicing and non dealers doing there servicing.i quered this with Isuzu about there warranty on these engines and they replied with a statement that a few years ago this situation had been taken to european high court and it was deemed that it would be illegal to monopolise the servicing of new products by manufactureurs within a warranty period to comply with there warranty.
I spoke to my garage that looks after my other landrovers and they said that providing that they used OE parts and the correct oils then there shouldnt be a problem with warranty.

From my point of view i will still use LR for my servicing of my sport as i think it may make a difference when trading it on or selling it on, so for the extra in cost might well save money in the long run. some of my Previous cars

Hi Grouppoint, I live in W.London, and like u, the nearest dealers wanted £450 ish for a 1st service on a D3,TDV6, I have just had mine done at Lancaster, Reading, cost £310 all in. I know it's a bit of a drive, but worth it. Oh and they did a good job too. Wink

I use the local main dealer (who's charges are still pretty steep even though it is rural Scotland - £115/hour for labour!) to look after my Sport. I know that at least they will update to all the latest mods and technical bulletins. However, for my 11 year old Def 90 TDi300 I use a Land Rover nonfrachised specialist who charges £25/hour and know everything there is to know about all versions of Landies modern and old........................... but I know that while he lets his own labour work on his older Land Rovers, he still takes his D3 TDv6 back to the LR dealer for servicing, even though he has all the right gear to service it himself. Why? Because he wants to have a full main dealer service history for the vehicle for when he sells or part-exchanges it later this year for another D3.
If it's done by a Land Rover specialist then I'm happy to do the same! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks guys for all your help. The added problem is that my RRS has done 15,300miles and counting. Meanwhile, the main dealers are booked for at least 2-3 weeks. The independents can service in 4 days notice.

I usually keep my cars for 5 years, by which time these cars devalue so much, and the service history with main dealer can only save the seller so much.

However, I think I'll take advice from the people in this forum and allow the main stealers to take my hard earned cash.

Don't worry about the mileage too much - I had my first service done at 17k due the dealer's lead time and my daily mileage commitments. It's not the end of the world, come resale... and as you point out, less so when it's 5 yrs old Very Happy

Servicing

Just a word of warning regarding servicing.Yes due to block exemption you can have your car serviced anywhere provided they use original Land Rover Parts.Where you get tripped up is when your 3 years run out.If your engine happens to go bang 6 months later the dealer can do a AWA claim. If you have no Land Rover service History this will hamper any claim. Also if you have any serious problems you will need to provide the original parts document fitted at service.

GP, what you should do now is to go back to the first dealer who quoted you, take the receipt and ask them to justify the difference in service price. You may find they will even negotiate on some discount on accessories to get your business back. My local dealer gives many of it's clients 10% discout on any parts and accessories they buy, I get 17.5% now on all the parts and accessories for being a "frequent buyer" having 2 Land Rovers to buy bits for Smile 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
