Unable to find insurance - Nightmare

I just got my first RRS yesterday, having previously owned RR-P38, Disco 3 4.4 HSE and Disco 3 2.7 TDV6 SE.

Previously I have had insurance for the P38 and Discos as low as 238 fully comp protected, including business miles in a 20.000 mile a year policy.

Now I can't seem to get anything below 575 on Go Compare (AA) and when you follow the quote up it goes up to 1,200...

The next cheapest was One Call who I used previously but left when they couldn't do a second car policy, they quoted 600 but that was with only 12,000 miles a year.... increasing to 20,000 miles rocketed the cost to 835.

I am 44, with a full clean licence, driving since Oct 89 with no accidents, claims or convictions and maximum no claims for that duration (9+ recognised with most insurers)

Can anyone offer me any advice or explanations??? I see others on here insuring without issues and usually for a lot cheaper that my quotes.

I live in North Nottinghamshire in a nice village.... not down town Baghdad....

Oh, and I can't tax it until its insured and I want to use it.... its bank holiday... very sad.

They are my current insurer on my old car.... they want 852 to insure me and thats with a 525 excess....

I was stunned as they insured my Disco 3 for 238.

They stated the RRS has a high first year cover.... seemed odd so decided to ask around

852 sounds ok for 20,000 miles a year if it's through a reputable insurer. You might get it cheaper but I cannot see it being in the 2 or 300s. RRS must be in a much higher group than a Disco as more desirable, and things like trick suspension and other expensive parts.

I pay about 600 for 8,000 miles a year with Direct Line. Max no claims (protected as had 1 x 2k claim in 2013 for vandalism), 600 excess, clean license, mid forties etc, living in north London, street parking. The quality of their cover and professional approach to claims means they have created a certain stickiness for me... I would be reluctant to go with another company just to save 100 a year, for example.

When your car starts making strange noises or the dash lights up like a Christmas tree the 850 insurance bill will look like loose change vs the garage repair quotes! Rolling with laughter L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso
RRS TDV6 HSE Lux (MY2011)... Nara Bronze / Arabica - now gone!

Flux suck, try Sky Insurance (not the TV people)

I've had a multi car policy with them for over 5 years and having had to use them for an accident can confirm it was relatively straightforward and I didn't get Censored over

I'm with Flux and this year's price went up a bit to about 500 but I did increase my annual mileage to 25k. That's with business use and two of us named on the policy. I went with Flux because their policies cover off road use which most don't.

The Flux cost includes the broker fee too, of course, so the actual insurance is about 400!

Vehicle parked on the drive. Tracker fitted - a requirement for theft coverage. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks Deano... just tried them online....

Because of the specialist nature of your enquiry, one of our experienced underwriters will need to talk to you to negotiate the best deals from the insurers. Please call us on 0800 038 7406. PLEASE SELECT THE "Save Quote" OPTION SO THAT WE'LL HAVE ALL YOUR DETAILS AT OUR FINGERTIPS WHEN YOU CALL.

And yes... they are closed when I called...

Im not going off road or track days... i'm only trying to insure the car to drive on normal roads....

Something is seriously conspiring to ruin my weekend here..... confused.com

Thats what I don't understand.... i'm asking for only one driver (me) and only 20k miles... so why 852? Its just a random price generator this insurance lark..

Seems steep, mines 800 year for 20k miles, garaged, 2 years ncb and I'm only 29.
I'm with admiral, try adding your Mrs to the policy see if it reduces it.

It is group 48 out of 50. So it is quite a high group, it all depends on where you live, your postcode can add hundreds to the price. How much NCD you have, your age if under 30 years old or over 60 years old both cause an increase in premium for this vehicle.
Without knowing your medical history or any previous accident claims etc these also can alter your quote, avoid business use as that can add a high % with many insurers. Last but not least, where it is parked overnight. If in garage or on your drive it doesn't always make it cheaper, as people break into houses for Fob/keys. Locked garages use to be the best, not now, by parking on road, my insurance quote dropped by 50 I tried three different places to find the difference in price, the locked garage was most expensive. Strange or what? Cover was for 20,000 miles and green lane Alterations to specifications aren't touched by some insurers, but I hot cheapest quote from Direct Line. Ihave ten years proven NCB, Advanced Drivers licence, and ex Police Class 1 licence still helps reduction. Tracker fitted and 24hr monitor service. (Now compulsory for LR RRS) This with protected no claims, guaranteed loan car for up to 21 days, repairs by LR dealership, accident legal cover, and all the normal things brought my quote to 468.00. So took out this company. The declared extras added 118 to original price so basic for everything was 350.00. Not got close to that with anyone. I also have another policy which pays difference between write off payout and price purchased guaranteed for 350.00 For three years renewable cover. Adding wife to policy made it nearly a hundred pounds extra, where it use to make it cheaper, so not on policy. Whistle John

Can only think of postcode if you can't get a decent quote. Big Cry

Have you tried Direct Line? Not on comparison listings. John

Try putting the start date for a few days time. I was getting good quotes (260 with Direct Line) then left it a couple of weeks till I'd bought the car and then the prices shot up for next day insurance. Luckily I had LR drive away insurance so was able to push the start date away 4 days and prices came down, a bit. I'm a similar age, driving length, NCB etc. and got 380 with Tesco insurance via compare the market, and that's with a wife who is 35 and own fault claim 4 year ago. Only 10000 miles cover though, and that's likely overkill for me. With the 4 days notice it was 300 with direct line but they insisted on a tracker - no need where I live, unless it's amphibious...
I did notice that when following through from the comparison site that if ANY change was made then the price shot up - just get everything right on the comparison site, buy the insurance as is then phone direct to insurer to correct any minor change (you get 14 days to cancel if any further price rises).
Remember too that your 20000 mile cover more or less doubles the insured risk, so a considerable price rise should be expected. Unfortunately lowering it much below 10000 isn't such a price drop. 13MY Range Rover Sport Autobiography SDV6 - mine

Johnski,

I am with Direct Line as well. My first insurance policy for the RRS was when I was 59 years and 11 months. This was renewed at age 60 years and 11 months and the difference is 8.20, which they claim is the increase in insurance tax. Total cost was 306.20 for myself and wife (both over 60) and 15,000 miles per annum. Have full NCB as have never had a claim in 43 years of driving. I used Direct Line to insure my Porsche Cayenne when I had that car prior to RRS and they proved to be the cheapest by a country mile for that vehicle as well. Agree they DO seem to be very picky about locations though, as my son, who currently lives in central London, tried them to insure his Mercedes with them and they proved to be the most expensive by a long way!

All the best,
