Foam pads under the bonnet

Cleaning the car today and while cleaning the leaves from the scuttle area I noticed a lot of green moss under the bonnet in the back corner that was attached to a foam pad, I don’t have one on the drivers side so I’ve taken it off for now(it fell off)

Are they required for any reason or can I leave them off? Steve

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Cairns Blue

I had exactly the same last year when I noticed the green stuff. Mine also just fell away. I’ve noticed no difference at all in extra noise anything. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.
