Powerflush

I'm having problems whilst driving. Car judders but not all the time. Read a couple of posts about powerflushing. Spoken to a couple of local garages who told me the German gearbox manufacturers recommend NOT to have them flushed. Luckily the car is under warranty so should be covered. Had quotes of £1200 for replacement torque converter and £1800+ for new converter and gearbox stripping and rebuild.

Flush at £250 or recon the gearbox at £1800. Hardly surprising which one they'd like you to do. Whistle

There are innumerable members on Disco3 and here that have had the gearbox flushed and had good results - I'm one of them. The key is to have it done early enough to avoid the usual issues starting.

I had my gearbox recon'd at Christmas and will be getting a flush done every two years (which will be c.50,000 miles at current usage). I had the box flushed at about 75,000 miles. Thought I had a torque converter issue but it turned out to be worn splines on the output shaft - hence the recon.

Edit: should clarify that the flush was done at 75k but the recon was done at 119k. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Is it still possible to have the gearbox flushed if it states in the manual 'filled for life' ?

Yep, I'm that stupid..........................

Yes it is.

"sealed for life" just means that the car manufacture doesn't recommend an oil change interval.
Maybe they can't be bothered to design tooling to have the oil changed once in the gearboxes life.

Hi Pete,

How is it that your 2006 is still under warranty? I know I'm in Canada but I'm still wondering how a 10 year old RRS can still get an extended warranty. Is that the case or are there some components of Land Rovers that are warrantied for life.... ?

There is no need to be jelious.

Our used car warranties aren't worth the paper they are written on. Laughing

Only got the car a month ago. The garage gave me a 3 month warranty.

Yes I have seen Doug DeMuro on youtube recommending bumper to bumper warranties on your side of the pond.

He is legally responsible anyway. The warranty is his attempt to get someone else to blame... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I'm glad you mentioned that.

What is the legal position in the UK ? when purchased from a trader.

3 months ? covering what ?

If anything is found wrong with a used car purchased from a dealer in the UK, they have to by law repair it, if the fault appears in a reasonable amount of time. Trading Standards are saying minimum of a year.
Used LR RRS purchased from LR approved dealer network give a minimum of 24 months Warranty, extendable by the purchaser. Comes as a rule with two years MOT pass or they pay for repair (except tyres, bulbs, window wiper blades etc. And a half day off road experience and other goodies. John

So, back to the powerflush. Does the flush include the torque converter or is it just the gearbox?
