United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport 4.4 V8 HSE Rimini Red
facelift headlights failed MOT (euro spec) what todo now...

in brief I bought my 2006 rimini red range rover sport a year ago

I knew even before buying the car that I wanted it to "look" like a 2012. (I couldn't afford a 2012)..

I facelifted it shortly after buying it to look like a full 2012 (not an autobiography)

anyhow when I was looking for front headlights I managed to find a set of "nearly new" genuine cornering headlights (black surrounds) for £700. I promptly bought them only to realise later they are in fact EURO spec and not UK.

ive run them for about 10 months no issues until MOT time last Friday where it obviously failed on the beams.

should i only buy genuine or are the aftermarket ones ok

clearly genuine are better. i cant afford genuine new and used are pricey and seem to often show signs of "theft" i also know that these lenses scratch (stone chip) fairly easily so should i just buy the aftermarket?

and then are the beams any good on the aftermarket ones? has anyone used them?

also anyone need and euro headlights in great condition!

cheers

spencer

Could you not put your old lights in to get you through the MOT while considering your options and/or saving up for a few months ?

Or this from topix Thumbs Up

HEADLAMPS - DRIVING ABROAD
Depending on the vehicle specification, the
headlamps are either manually adjustable for
travelling in countries which drive on the
opposite side of the road, or adjustment free.
If the top of the headlamps are marked with the
symbols shown above, they are adjustment
free, with a beam pattern that eliminates the
need to mechanically adjust the lamps or add
any external obscuration decal.
If there are no symbols on the headlamps, they
are manually adjustable. A lever in each
headlamp allows you to adjust the beam
pattern for driving on the left or right hand side
of the road. When new, the levers are set to the
correct position for the country in which the
vehicle is sold. To change the pattern for
driving on the alternate side of the road, move
the levers to the alternate position.
Note: The headlamps must be removed in
order to change the beam pattern. See 171, Currently MY16 Disco 4 Mr. Green

just to clarify ive changed the wings and many other parts to a 2012 spec so my old lights if i had them would not fit.

also it was these pre face lift light that did have the beam adjuster lever..

ive got an MOT for now and the guy was sympathetic which was lucky and interested in range rovers however he had to screw the light beam adjuster so much that the beam line now is uber low.

i will have to sell my genuine euro 2012 lights in favour of some UK spec ones...

oem or aftermarket?

this is how my car looks now

Call Dan@Duckworths and ask what deal he could do for you on a set of OEM, then if the price is OK fit them BUT make sure that you don't damage the packing cases and retain them, put your removed ones up for sale as Euro Spec on the forum For sale section............... The cost will be high, the packaging is complex, but you can still sell on your unrequited set.
If you don't fancy up OEM then I'm sure that there are plenty for sale of that well known auction website 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

thanks Tim.

has anyone used the aftermarket lights? do they work properly for RHD ?

my only concern with used is some of the light could be as old as 5 years, and the lenses can suffer from fine stone chips and possibly cloudy lenses with age from the suns UV rays

these seem to be a candidate. they have the same pin layout in the plug as I need.

Don't understand why you can't just set the light to be in RHD mode rather than euro LHD. It's just a lever in the headlight unit. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

i cant find any lever to adjust.

to be clear the headlights currently fitted to my range rover are 2012 manufactured in mid 2011.

i looked and looked and cannot see the adjuster rod.

i did have an beam adjuster rod in the 2006 headlight i had previously.

is there something ive missed?

when i bought some beam deflectors the instructions listed "range rover sport" MY 2010-2013 and explained where to fit them. there wasn't any listed info for a ranger rover sport 04-09 (because these are beam adjustable RHD - LHD)

cheers

Im wanting to do what you done, what a class looking upgrade man. Hope you can fix the lamps easy with a toggle rather than buy new ones. Surely there is a manual on swapping the beam over?

Well i have a 11mdl AB LHD that has the euro lights and have no problem with the MOT. To adjust the beam there should be white plastic screws that you put a screw driver in towards the back of the light.
Ok i see you got the MOT. Now when dark using the screws i mentioned to raise the beam to where you need it.
They will be fine. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

johnski if you could find out and let me know that would be really helpful.

can I just also make a point that since march 2016 the EU have tightened up the regs on headlight alignment tests in an MOT https://www.gov.uk/government/publications...tice-03-16

be great if could keep my lights as they are perfect. Thumbs Up

I removed my headlight today and removed the xenon bulb to look inside, there really is NO lever to move to change the beam pattern. there is only the shutter that open (I think for mean beam)

so ive ordered some replacement light.

my very clean euro lights will be listed for sale shortly.
