brake pads burning / intense heat

Hi guys,

following on from a brake pad change, the car has done approx. 2 k miles and within this period, 3-4 times, the brakes when decreasing speed from 70mph to 0 Mph, the smoke and smell coming from the brakes seems as if I've done 3 laps round brands hatch ! you can see the heat coming from the brakes. this happened most recently on the drier side front.

this obviously cant be right.

now then, do I change the discs ? or callipers ? the discs where never changed when the pads where changed.

thanks for the reply, is there any maintenance you can do on the existing callipers ? or is the next option is to change the front callipers ?

Not sure if there is a service kit for the calipers but I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along soon Thumbs Up

From my experience with Jeep GC and similar case few years ago (front left caliper seized) I think that you should replace cylinders. Too much heat totally destroyed inner part of cylinder and material changed colour so the safest way for me was to replace all parts under such heat. You are probably on the same path

I would suggest the first thing to check is the sliders quite common for them to seize up in the carrier. If there ok and it is the calipar it's worth pricing an exchange unit rather than changing Pistons, seals etc 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current
