Considerations for a v6 or v8?

My first post, so HI all!!

I'm torn between an 18 month old V6 or SDV8.... I always love V8s and I would look at a remap for whichever I choose. I had been considering an Audi SQ7 which gives the performance I was hoping for (0-60 4.4s for a diesel) but it just a bit dull. The RRS is far more refined, particularly the Autobiography.

I'm comparing a V6 and a V8 tomorrow on a test drive, but are there any opinions as to the residuals / desirability of one over the other and any hidden nasties?

There's a lovely SVR on the forecourt.... but apparently I need to be sensible (SWMBO)

I suppose if you don't give it the Beans all the time in the v8 you can get the mpg close to the v6 , but the sound is no contest, v8 would win that one . The resale would probably be lower I would have thought, most customers buying second hand would be looking for economy.
Go for the v8 , now the seed has been planted you won't be able to settle for the v6 .
Not sure what (SWMBO) means.

I choose the SDV8 over the 6. reason as follows:-

MPG difference is negligible have got 7.4/100 cruising 120 kph on freeway , round town 8.9/100
Resale is better as second hand buyers in OZ often want a tow vehicle
Wanted a little more torque and performance and also liked the lower stress of the V8

Not much else am happy with my choice , also the SVD8 comes standard with dynamic control , bigger brakes and a whole lot of stuff that you pay more for on the 6 M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

Friend of mine just did the exact same comparison. He thought the V8 pulled harder at higher speeds, although little in it on step-off. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Handling wise I'd go for the 6 as the 8 is heavier for cornering,you mention which ever you go for your going to get it remapped.Why don't you just go for the SVR or supercharged then you have everything,,,,,,apart from economy that is.

I meant that the Q7 styling is dull. There's no doubt that the engine with a hybrid 48v turbo will be an absolute beast, but in terms of looks, the RRS has it.

How about the Hybrid RRS? On sale and has been for a couple of years. It comes only as an Autobiography but has the V6 diesel with a battery pack and salves your environmental consciousness a tiny bit! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

When you say V6 are you talking about petrol or diesel?

If you want the smile factor (with reasonable economy) the SDV8 is my choice. Thumbs Up 2016 Range Rover Sport SDV8 HSE Dynamic (Indus Silver/Santorini Black Pano Roof, Ebony/Cirrus leather, custom grey Style 508 alloys)

Dr Fox, unfortunately the V6 petrol isn't offered in the UK, JLR saves that engine only for Jaguars in the UK.
