Removing aftermarket wing mirror covers

I'm taking the chrome wing mirror covers off and replacing them with black ones. Well I'm trying to, the powerful UK video here makes it look so easy, in reality the chrome ones don't want to come off at all. In fact they're starting to tug the actual wing mirror itself with them.

Anyone got any idea how I can safely get these off? The covers are starting to snap around the edges where I've tried to prise them off. If they've been fitted with silicone adhesive I'm not sure how to reverse it, hairdryer?

Cheers Smile

I don't have a 'hot air gun', but I do have a hair dryer, hopefully that'll do. It's kind of a hot air gun Laughing

Well that was a massive PITA but it's done. They must have been terrified of the covers coming off. Soooo much adhesive I had to break them off in bits. Good riddance.

The mini stealth conversion is complete and the car looks much better now I reckon.

Cheers peachy I reckon the chrome lettering worked out OK as well. Was considering no lettering at all but it's not too OTT with the chrome IMO.

Eh? Cars haven't had wing mirrors since the early seventies...
Nice door mirror mods though, much better without the bling!

Pedant Laughing Cheers. I'm surprised how much difference smoked repeaters make, actually. Looks much more subtle now, a bit less drug-dealery Thumbs Up
