2012 sport. Speedo Dial top dash pod, how to remove?

Hi to all.

I have a 62 plate red edition sport, i am after some help with removing the speedo pod at the top of the dials? The reason i want to remove it is because i have just bought a brand new genuine one in black leather to suit the rest of my dash and doors which are covered in leather.

I think i can remove this without removing the whole dash well i hope so anyway.

Just thought i would ask you guys as im sure somebody will know!

Thanks

Thomas.

Hi,

You don't need to remove Complete Dash but it is quite a bit of work to change it. It is easiest if you remove the Steering Wheel first though.

Cheers

Hi col.

Thanks for the reply. Well least the whole dash does not have to come off!

Taking the steering wheel off! Is it possible to leave it on?

Another thing is there a rave workshop manual you can download for this?

Not quite a easy swap like i thought it was then.

I think it bolts on by the looks of the new one i have.

Anymore help would be appreciated Very Happy

Hi.

It is possible to leave the Wheel on, but it makes it awkward to remove the Instrument Cluster as that has to be removed to get to the screws that retain the top cover.

Cheers

Ahh i see. Is it hard to remove the steering wheel?

Like the airbag etc! Plus programming does that need to be done to remove/refit the steering wheel.

I can do this myself i think but just dont want to damage anything!!

I have looked online and on utube but with no luck!

It is quite easy to remove the Airbag but you will need to buy the tool to release it, if you go on to Powerful UK website they have videos how to do it. You will need to disconnect battery first and leave car for 15/20 mins. for system to discharge any residual current. Before you disconnect battery make sure you extend the steering wheel out towards you and lower it down as far as it will go to give yourself plenty of room as I imagine you have the electrical adjustable steering column.

There is nothing that needs to be re-programmed, just don't switch ignition on with anything unplugged as may log faults.

Cheers

Hi Col.

Yea i do have the electronic adjustable steering column. Thanks for the advice about the airbag. Once i have the tool for the removal of the steering wheel hopefully it should be straightforward.

Still can't believe the wheel has to come off oh well nothing is straight forward i suppose.

Really appreciate the help though.

I am Going to remove the wheel now as you say it makes it alot easier.

I am guessing the tool you need is some sort of puller to remove the wheel?

The tool you need is to release the Airbag not remove the Steering Wheel, just search Airbag Removal Tool on e-bay. As I said look on Powerful UK site the sell the tool and show a Video how to use it.

This is a Pre Facelift but basically same procedure.

Watched the video, it looks pretty simple to be honest. Have looked on utube for the 2012 shape steering wheel removal but cant find one. Still im sure they are almost the same.
Without that little tool it would be impossible. Gonna order one of these tools tonight i think.

Is there a online workshop file for a 2012 sport, like rave for the discovery 2?

If there is i would love to download it Smile
