Insurance increased by 50%!! A few tips!

So renewal time, last year I paid £1000 for fully comp 31yr old with 1 NCB (new policy for additional car).

No claims changes (apart from one more year NCB) and its increased to £1500 with Admiral....so I call them and got a few suprises:

Cat 5 Tracker does not reduce the policy premium.

Removing my 65yr old father reduced the premium by £200

The real kicker was that they do not reduce the value of the vehicle on a year on year basis so it was still showing the book price I paid last year...which of course has dropped quite significantly....they will only pay on market value so no agreed value...but I do have GAP insurance.

All that taken into account the quote came out £40 cheaper than last year...even with the hike in premium tax. 2014.5 Mariana Black 5.0 Supercharged V8 Autobiography

LRI has also hiked premiums this year as well as reducing/ removing cover for specific items previously standard - eg off road use is now not covered, hardly warrants being called "Land Rover" Insurance as many of us insured with them have had their policies for many years purely because off-road use was covered as standard................ Maybe time for Land Rover to remove the right for the broker to use the LR trade mark for their policy. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

My insurance dropped £150 this year.

Surrey based. Fully comp inc. business cover for me and my wife.

Only difference was another years ncb (protected).

Was previously with Admiral, they did everything they could to reduce the price but they couldn't match what I was offered.

All in for £322. 2012 RRS HSE. Firenze Red.

We have just been doing the yearly search and ring around. Direct Line wouldn't even touch my RRS or Mrs Jim's Ewok as neither has a Thatcham 1 alarm and immobiliser......... Shocked

Kwik Fit and M&S coming in best for the Ewok and Tesco's bank for my L494.

As I stated on a earlier Insurance thread, I am shocked that the Land Rover Insurance this year has removed Off Road cover which was one of the main reasons for it, add to that that the "genuine" LR parts are no longer guaranteed and a patent copy or part supplied by the LR dealership carrying out the repair can be used, in other words anything! All covered in main policy print ot in the renewal, just a note to say check for any differences in policy cover.
The policy had gone up over £500 to £800.00 can't see how that can be justified, so looking at changing insurers or getting specialist people to quote. This is like daylight robbery and as said the value of car has gone down too. John

That's bizarre as Direct Line insure me in my MY2015 L494 for under £300 per year. At least that was the premium last year. I understand that premiums are increasing across the board this year, but have no reason to believe they will not renew the policy at all. Fortunately not due until August, maybe time to start shopping around!

Jock, I was surprised as we had both cars insured with Direct Line before swapping to Admiral last year.

I have a new RRS arriving this week, so I was little taken aback when they said they wouldn't cover my 2.5 year old one?

Well Jim,

Just out of curiosity I have just got a quote from Admiral for a joint policy for the wife's Honda Jazz 1.4 (2010) and my RRS HSE (2015). It came back as £400.45 for the two vehicles. The split was £302.09 for my vehicle and £98.16 for the wife's. This is pretty much the same as it was with Direct Line last year, so, if DL don't wish to play ball, the answer is quite simple. It would be interesting to find out why DL no longer wish to insure Range Rover Sports, though.

Possibly due to the very high repair costs, especially the parts. Also the Tax has also gone up this year since the budget.
It's not as if boy racers purchase them, but off-roading vehicles premiums are jumping up, even if you don't go off road.
It seems that LRI has really jumped up, and now has less cover than ever before. John

I've just had my new 16.05 insured with DL so they deffo still do cover. Cost a small fortune but then I was coming at it with zero NCB at the moment.

I have my RRS and wife's BMW 325i insured with Admiral.

I am a named driver on the BMW.

Last November the BMW suffered damage from a falling tree and Admiral paid the repairs less £500 excess.

When I later came to renew the RRS policy, Admiral wanted to hike up the premium by £200 on account of the tree damage to the BMW.

Can this be justified or is it just another insurance co. scam? RRS (MY13) Santorini Black SDV6 HSE luxuary

Hi , I have a very similar story . My ncd was protected so after I explain to the call center " you can record the claim but not penalize me " they did not increase my renewal price.
Good luck Thumbs Up

NCD protection doesn't stop them increasing the base premium...

I think one of the reasons prices are going up is because of the people who insist on loan cars costing hundreds or thousands whilst their car is in the garage. The insurance industry will recoup that cost from somewhere and that somewhere is the premiums they charge. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed
