Painting Side Sills and Bumpers

I'm considering have the side sills and bumpers painted to match the body colour (Corris Grey) when my car arrives.

Are there any issues with doing this? Can the parking sensors be painted? Does the paint adhere ok to the plastic?

Any experiences good or bad?

In the UK there is an option to have this done as part of configuring your car - so it will come painted from factory? If you decide to do this after market there should be no issue as I had my 2015 HSE done by the supplying dealer. Never had any issues. Yes sensors were painted too.

Thanks RRSman.
Yes, we have that option here too for around $2500. Unfortunately the build was fixed before I had a chance to specify it.

No issues, had the side sills, front and rear corners as well as front and rear bumpers painted. The parking sensors are painted without issue but the black circle outlines will remain. 2016 SCV8 Dynamic - Firenze Red/Pimento

Same as the above on my 2015 Dynamic.
- I had rear bumper quarter panels painted too.

And ppf (paint protection film) applied to all.

All worked fine. 2022 P440e AB

For those who have had their plastic side sills and bumpers painted, can you see any of the texture of the plastic after painting, or does it have a completely smooth surface like the rest of the painted vehicle body? I have had both a body shop and a painter who paints for the local Land Rover dealer express concern over the finished product, with respect to both the texture and the color appearance (i.e., issues with matching).

Although I would like to have these components painted to match the body color, not having seen the finished result in person, I am hesitant to proceed.

I can't see why they could't do as good a job as the factory, and my factory-painted sills etc. are identical to the main body in both smoothness and colour. In any case, isn't the boot plastic, and that looks OK?

High build primer will take care of any surface texture.

I don't suppose JLR have two separate mould tool sets for AB and non-AB surface textures? MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

It's like the body in appearance and touch in my opinion.

The only difference is the paint isn't as strong, in the front a rock has made a bigger mark on the front than it would have made on the factory painted portion, because it's paint over plastic instead of paint on metal.

Wouldn't hesitate to do it again.

If you find out from your dealer who their recommended body shop is, they will be able to paint them. 2016 Range Rover Sport SDV8 HSE Dynamic (Indus Silver/Santorini Black Pano Roof, Ebony/Cirrus leather, custom grey Style 508 alloys)

Yes, I've spoken to the dealer who has given me a few names. It seems like it is quite a common thing to get done.

That's not surprising given how much better they look with it done.
