Why do people buy an SE? Often because that is what a dealer has in their compound waiting for an owner and they get a good deal on a car they don't have to wait 4 months to have on their drive. Dealers then add some extras to soften the deal too. Dealers order demo cars with a spec that will sell easily not one that is going to be loaded with extras that people can use as a bargaining point. My own RRS2 took only three weeks from order to delivery because I took a car that was on order for stock/ low miles demo basically. It has only Privacy, Metallic Paint, 22" OEM wheels and the Panoramic roof over the standard HSE Dynamic spec. Having owned two RR's laden down with options and lost heavily at trade in time I hope that when the time comes for this one to go I will not take quite such a hard hit as it has only a few of the most popular options on it and not stuff that can give loads of issues in the way of electronics. My 1st RRS was an SE, it had everything I needed on it except the factory SatNav and hands free. Mr Parrott provided and excellent handsfree system that was streets ahead of the factory issue device for a vast amount least than the OEM one and Mr Tom Tom provided a very versatile satnav for a fraction of the price of the factory one and also one that could be updated online whenever I wanted, for free rather than having to pay gazillions for an update at the dealership. My SE still had essentials like cruise controi, heated seats front and rear, lecy mirrors, decent audio, leather etc. BTW all RRS1 except the S (which was short lived) should have part or full leather interiors, the faux leather that LR used was very hard to tell from the real thing and often didn't crease or deform as easily as the real leather!! On SE's only the seat facings are leather all the bits you tend not to look at are faux leather. My sister purchased a used RRS 2.7 S back in 2008, it is now approaching 300,000 miles and has never missed a beat despite having never been near a Land Rover dealer service bay in all those years, it gets an annual service at the local garage ((who work on lots of Land Rovers as it is a farming area). The 1st owner had the sense to spec the optional leather interior with seat heaters otherwise standard on the S was cloth and they specced the upgrade 20" wheels, privacy glass and electric windows to the back. The car looks in really good nick despite being black and it has just had a new set of wheels to go with it's new tyres as it was very cheap to buy a full set of wheels and tyres from one of the Land Rover wheel and tyre specialists who advertise in the Land Rover Mags. Her RRS has outlasted 3 Toyotas that she has also owned in their family in the time she has had the Sport. It has also been more relaible than my BIL's BMW 3 series Touring. Her RRS goes offroad daily as they live 3 miles up a rough track but it is also used for the family truck and runs to the cash and carry to get stock for their pub and shop. Having said that anyone who bought any Land Rover product was a "bampot" my BIL is now firmly a believer in buying used Land Rovers and they have several in their businesses, all used ones that have been very carefully searched for and service histories fully researched.
That is the key to RRS buying, go in with your eyes wide open and a decent budget, there are abused dogs out there and they can hide abuse extremely well. Above all be prepared to spend serious money when things go wrong! Often people are getting rid of them because they haven't looked after them well and something expensive has failed. EGR's, Turbos and suspension issues usually. All are not hard to fix BUT can be expensive. Very importantt too is that you don't run away if somebody tells you that the body will have to come off to fix something, it is designed to be lifted off in a short time and has to be lifted off for many items that are part of a standard service on higher mileage cars. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

From what I have seen the spec isn't that bad really is it... Things like dab and a harman kardon sound system I could live without but it would be nice, I mean that spec can't be much off the hse or is it? Kinda of gutted about the reversing cameras etc

Don't fret about no reversing cam, they aren't all they are cracked up to be especially in wet weather with dirty roads, the spray kicked up the back of the car means that you won't see anything through one anyway! Don't forget one of the beauties of a Land Rover (except Range Rover Evoque when style took over from practicality) is that you can see all the corners of the car dead easy from the driver's seat, that's one benefit of the boxy shape. My Mum was scared stiff of driving my FFRR, she is 5ft tall and thought the car a monster. She had to drive it to get my dad to hospital in some terrible winter weather a few years ago while I was away overseas and she ranted and raved about how easy the car was to drive because it was like driving a mobile greenhouse, she could position the car exactly where she wanted it no problem................ that was then a problem, she wanted to take it everywhere instead of using her Honda Civic or Dad's Jazz, she just loved the view out of the RR! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Yeah suppose that's true mate, I love your range them new sports are just amazing I wish I could get one of those beauty's haha. But I mean the one I'm looking at I know I will be able to get it at a good price when it goes though but it's not until next month anyway so in the meantime if anything does come up before that i will also check. But I know whatever one I get I will be happy

You can have a RRS2, They are losing a few £100 every month, you can save £'s every month. Its just a waiting game. I have decided on a RRS2.

This summer I may well be buying a car for £45k-£55k that cost over £90k just 20 months ago. Every £1 you save is doubled at least by depreciation. Be patient, why buy a RRS1 now and be stuck with it in 12 months. Sve more for 12 months and buy a RRS2.

I may be missing something here, but you say they loose a few hundred a month. A 90k car at around 20 months old for 55k means it has depreciated 35k over 20 months works out at £1750.00 a month not a few hundred.

I think you are being very optimistic if you feel you are going to get a car at that age for that price, as at 90K new I would think it would be quite a high spec car as well.

I have seen 2014/2015 RRS2 in the region of £50k-£60 that were easily £85k-£95k specked cars. With as little as 6000 miles on them

I stand by what I said earlier - you won't get a RRS2 for £40k in 2016 unless its the lowest spec or over 100k miles -IMO  16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............
