Swapping 2006 Instrument Cluster

Hi guys, hope everyone is well.

I have been told the instrument pack on my car (2006 TDV6) is faulty and causing all the electrics inside the car to cut out after a few seconds (engine still running and car drives fine).

LR want £450 for the part but there are some on eBay for £100 or so. I have been told you cannot code another cars instrument panel to your car and I have to buy new. Is this true?

I'm trying to minimise costs at the moment as I've just spent £1000 on a service, new battery and alternator in the last month but I still have this cutting out issue. It was due to be part exchanged last week but no one will take it with the elctrics constantly cutting out Big Cry

Any help appreciated Thumbs Up LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.

New Zealand 2013 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Santorini Black

Hi,

Have just changed the Instrument Cluster in mine from MPH to KPH as Exporting the vehicle soon. Had to buy New Cluster as they have to be matched with the BECM and KVM and another ECU as well I believe.

I did speak to Patrick at GAP and he said the same as well it has to be a new unit, unfortunately their Diag. tool cannot do it, so it will be a Main Stealer or a Indi with the appropriate diag. equipment as the files have to be copied from the BECM Etc. across to the New Cluster. I can't find the invoice at the moment but a Local Independent charged me £72.50 to do it if I remember correctly.

I don't know for certain but if you use a Old Unit which is already coded with files I would be wary that it may corrupt the original CCF files etc. As I say I don't know for certain it would do this, but someone else might be able to tell you for certain. Also if a S/Hand unit will work and has a higher mileage than you car it will log the higher of the two figures.

Mine is a MY13 Car which may be a different setup to a pre facelift.

Cheers
Col

Thanks Col, very useful info. I spoke to another independent today who said pretty much the same. Looks like I'll have to bite the bullet and get a new unit.

Cheers Peachy! We've sat through enough Tuesday night games against the likes of Milwall in freezing conditions to enjoy our league position! We also nicked Demarai from you who looks fantastic! Hope all is well with you. LCFC. Receiver of threatening letters from Overfinch.
