Can someone tell me what a standard A is ?

Sorry. Being a 4.2 S/C it will be a L320 model built before 2009/10 so you are better posting this in the other 'General' section at the top of the front page. 

I might be able to help. I've owned two L320's before the L495 but they were a TDv6 and a TDv8. I suspect what is being refarred to is that it is not either an HST version (body kit by Land Rover at the factory or stuck on by a dealership or even bought and stuck on by an owner) or one of the relatively rare First Edition cars, these are the only "Limited" edition S/C produced and HST was really very limited as it was a "stamdard" option for a couple of years. I think that the Red, Black and Stormer Special Editions were only ever available with diesel power. The A is "Automatic" since there has never been a manual gearbox Sport built for the UK or European market then it's a silly description to add as they are all autos. Is the advertiser a non franchised dealer orr private seller as often you find these "mis descriptions" on backstreet sellers ads, although Land Rover dealers themselves can make some cringe inducing mistakes in their descriptions of cars that they sell day to day! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks for your reply but I have seen the log book and it is registered as a standard A

It does have red leather and red bits all over it.

Does it have a Kahn, Overfinch, Revere or Arden badge on it somewhere then? It sounds like it might be a modified car with those "additions" that you describe as red interiors were never offered by the factory on L320's only on more recent L494 models. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

My HST was listed as "LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER SPORT HST A" so Tim is correct (again) in that the A means Auto.

ETA: Just done a search on a random 4.2 S/C car in the adds and it comes up as "LAND ROVER RANGEROVER SPT V8SC STD A" 

My Sport shows up us a "LAND ROVER RANGEROVER SPT V8SC STD A" too and it is a late 2005 registered so a 2006 model and isn't a first edition 2016 Black SDV8 Autobiography
2013 Grey Black Edition SDV6 (lasted a while but gone now)
2005 Grey Supercharged Sport (gone but never forgotten)
