Air Bag Warning Light

This has started to stay on recently. Initially it would sometimes keep off on an odd journey but now every time it comes on.
No work has been done which might have disturbed anything for some time.

Read the codes yesterday - B0001-1B 2C. Drivers frontal stage 1.
Cleared the code but it has immediately returned. All CC & Radio wheel buttons seem to work OK.
Seems as though it is Clock Spring.

But before I go down that route, is there anything else it could be?

Also there was a recall 2008 NHTSA 08V248000 which might apply - but this car is 07 VIN so might just be outside the scope - I will need to check with a dealer if it applied.

Any thoughts from anyone?
Don't want to order a clockspring until I have exhausted other possibilities.
Perhaps I should put this on Disco forum?

Hi
I had same last year, under warranty they replaced clock spring but light didn't go off, was a broken wire under driver seat, apparently there isn't enough surplus wire length so if you move seat back and forth lots it stretches it and breaks or pulls out of connection

I have done some checking of the wiring I can get to but so far nothing.
I can clear the fault and then it returns fairly snappily with -
Airbag • B0001-1B (AE) Driver's frontal stage 1 - deployment control - General electrical failure - circuit resistance above threshold ( at 181784 km )
Now is my logic correct here? If the fault detail is correct then surely this is just the Air bag or connections to RCM?
So "if" I am right then -
Faulty Air Bag
Faulty Clock Spring (no problems with any of the s/wheel buttons ever)
Faulty Restraint Control module (RCM) - not likely as I guess this is where the fault is generated from.
Poor Wiring connections - connector to Air Bag from Clock Spring C1948/C0257
Connector to Clock spring C2641
intermediate connector C0067/C0229
Connector on RCM C1649
The connector numbers are from LR3/LHD so may well be incorrect for RRS RHD but I guess the principle is the same.
Without any further way of diagnostic checking I am now down to pulling everything apart to get to these - which is going to take me some time!

On my previous P38 the pretensioner on drivers seat caused the red light - that was the wire crimp in the connector under the drivers seat - everything looked OK until you checked it with a meter - I ended up bridging the connector wiring.

I really would appreciate any further thoughts from forum members!

I'm also interested. My airbag warning light came on when I had fully loaded the car for a long trip. I checked the wiring under the drivers seat but didn't solve the problem. I have it booked into Hunters Guildford on Friday. When I spoke to the technician on the phone, he thought it was unlikely to be the clock spring and said something to the effect that they had only replaced 2 clock springs in all the time that h's been there. Will post how I get on.

Air Bag Warning Light - Fixed??

The ?? is because as I am not sure of the cause, I cannot be sure it will not recur!!

Trusting the IID fault code was correct and implied a poor connection to the Drivers Airbag as in my earlier post, with great trepidation I carefully took the Air Bag off.

(Go to Sleep, battery disconnected, make up tool - needs a bit of a hook and use the stronger type of wire coat hanger!).

Removed the lower steering column cowl - and yes I have lost one of the clips to the lower drivers panel!

Using multimeter, checked for resistance between each of the 4 wires in the yellow plug under the cowl to the 2 connectors to the airbag. Nothing really to report - all low. Turned wheel both ways - still OK.

Carefully put silicone grease on each connection (including the earth Lucar).

Re-assembled and lo and behold the light is out and has stayed out over the last 100 miles or so.
The car has done 113k miles so I suppose this sort of bad connection is probably to be expected.

Because I have not found anything, I'm now watching for the light to come back on!

A sincere thanks to all who have posted with details about the clockspring and removing the airbag. Without these I would not have been confident enough to follow this through.
