L494 20” vs 21” wheels

Hi All,
I’m looking to purchase an L494 very shortly and wanted some thoughts on ride comfort between 20” and 21” wheels, is there a noticeable difference?

Fed up with our rubbish quality roads so I’m thinking I definitely need to avoid 22” (although they look fantastic), I guess 21” may be the best compromise for looks/comfort but if there was a significant difference by dropping to 20’s it might be worth considering.

I’ve been running a 2016 Jaguar XJ 3.0d X351 for the last few years, the ride on that was pretty comfortable but by no means a magic carpet as these more modern Jags are on the firmer side. Anyone driven one of these and an L494 to compare?

The Jag did suffer from oil dilution even though I was doing an 80 mile a day commute on mainly dual carriageway and A roads so don’t buy into it only happens when doing short journeys. Has anyone else had oil dilution on their RRS when doing a similar commute?

I am half tempted by the refinement and ride of an L405 but concerned that it may feel too big and wallowy as an everyday commuting car.

I know I need to go and drive a few to see how they feel but any thoughts welcome!

Thanks

Steve

No real difference between 21 and 22 to be honest , been running 22s for 4 years now on our L494 and apart from a simple puncture repair a couple of weeks back no issues - ride quality fine on the Pirelli silent tyres Thumbs Up

If your regular roads are a bit crap and/or you do a bit of off-roading, then I'd highly recommend you stick with 20".

otherwise even 22" are fine, but you will feel the occasional pothole Thumbs Up --

I swapped from 21s to 22s and honestly can’t feel the differed in ride quality.

I can't comment on 20s or 21s as I have 22s. My comment about 22s is they are far to easy to kerb and on one occassion I had to mount a kerb at around 60-80 degrees to road and was surprised to "pinch" the tyre sufficiently to have the alloy rim slightly dented by the kerb. MY17 RRS 4.4d V8 Autobiography - Aintree Green (also referred to on Topix as British Racing Green)
