Is it all really that bad?!

Crikey. My MY12 RRS is coming up for replacement, and the default is to just replace with a new RRS. I came back on here to peruse latest thinking, and this board is full of grief. I know more people post grievance than praise, but it really doesnt look good from a relative outsider.

I'm seriously considering moving to something else now. New GLE or XC90 maybe.

Mine is a MY15 RRSII Dynamic Hybrid, faultless since January and I have already 35.000 on the clock.
My driving style is 80% Highway, 15% City, 5% Offroad.

I think I am not the only one, there are a lot of faultless RRSII out there. The ones with problems are also a lot, but seems not really much more than from other brands.

I drive only cars with enough guarantee on it, then i can enjoy it. I would never buy a car without guarantee even if it is a brand with a better reliability image than Land Rover, as every product can end with problems.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Apart from the disappointing fuel slap which is quite easy to avoid by keeping the tank level above 1/3rd full I have been delighted not just with the quality but also the economy of my 2015MY HSE Dynamic. After the awful build quality of my last Evoque faith in Land Rover's QC has been restored. And an RRS2 HSE Dynamic is sooooooooooo much fun to play hooligans in now and again! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

England 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

The RRS2 (L494) is a fantastic car and, in my opinion, the best in it's class. Some dealerships can be a little hit and miss but when you find a good one (I use Guy Salmon Land Rover, Northampton, who have always been outstanding) you will find that the service you receive is second to none!

The main thing that lets the whole Land Rover experience down is Land Rover themselves. They will refuse to accept that there are various faults and quality control issues with their vehicles, and will only act when pushed. If Land Rover upped their game in the Customer Satisfaction department then there would be a lot less negetivity passed on by owners on the various Land Rover forums.

Just my thoughts.

Jim

Andorra 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Fuji White

Unfortunately ... this is where we come to air our grievances...

Love my car... it's an unbelievable improvement on MY12 ... and a joy to drive ....

My Issues ...
The Gap... I live with it.. doesn't bother me
Fuel slap... bothered me a lot but it's resolved
Brake calliper paint... really Censored me off
The leather is pretty Censored fitting for a car of this value ...

Not enough to truthfully stop me buying again ....and nothing that great to have lessened my enjoyment too much or inconvenienced me too much ... 2014.5 SDV6 AB Dynamic ... Fuji /Santorini Pan roof and 22's
2013 Porsche Boxster S 3.4
2014 Audi A3 S line Quattro

I'll second andman's post.

The gap: I will not go looking for it because if I haven't noticed it yet it's either been fixed in MY16 or not bad enough for me to worry about.
Fuel slap: Very annoying but almost gone. Still hear a faint noise sometimes but will get it checked the next time it goes in for something else.
Calliper paint: Will raise it when it starts flaking off but OK so far (been 5 weeks only).
Leather fitting: Slightly imperfect in a couple of places but certainly not as bad as some others have found. LR have still acknowledged and it will be done the next time it goes in.
Missing AHBA: LR working on a fix (I hope!).

It would have been great if these issues didn't exist but not enough to put me off. If it starts breaking down repeatedly or causes inconvenience then my opinion will quickly change. Almost 1,000 miles and there haven't been any warning/fault lights/messages which is far more important than the minor problems I have. Of course I am not going to live with these issues and will not let go until everything is rectified but it doesn't spoil my experience as it is a pleasure to drive this car.

So no, they are NOT that bad. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
Gone: MY16 RRS2 3.0 SDV6 Autobiography Dynamic, Carpathian Grey & Santorini Black Sliding Pano/Ebony & Ivory 2 Tone
Gone: MY13 RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Black Edition, Orkney Grey/Ivory
Gone: MY09 RRS 2.7 TDV6 HSE, Santorini Black/Almond

Happy reading Rolling with laughter In truth it's not that bad... a bit of sloppy LR finishing and if you didn't know it was there it wouldn't bother you....

United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black

I have had my MY2016 RRS for 4 weeks now.. It drives very well overall.. I am very disappointed with the quality/choice made by LR for plastics, the gloss black outer A frame finishers micro scratch just by looking at them!. The seat leather quality/fitting is way worse than my previous 2013 HSE Black and may have to be brought up with dealer as is crap for this level/cost of vehicle. Sometimes get a clunk first thing in the morning from the gearbox when vehicle cold, but that now has recently stopped in the last 2 days. Fuel slap, not heard it yet.
Meridian 825W stereo upgrade is ok, but not fantastic, the 2013 car system was better IMHO.
The rear quarter wing panels can be pushed in 13mm on each side at the rear wheel arch, not sure yet if this is design or a build issue, again still to see dealer over it.
The drivers side standard mat design both for carpet and rubber is utter rubbish. Don't even go there, get the aftermarket rubber set as per the thread on this forum.
The MY2016 front and rear tow covers are coloured Corris grey, which IMHO does not suit the darker colours at all, so had to have these colour coded and looks MUCH better.
The Piano Black optional interior finisher will scratch just by looking at it.. but do look the business ( when not scratched ).

Interior design is ok, but less room than the older model and rear stowage is dreadful, the folding system of rear seats is poor. ( mind you even the new FFRR rear stowage is hugely reduced ).

Supplying dealer very good to take order and take money, less so on follow ups. It should not have been like this.

To be honest I am quite underwhelmed by the new RRS model, the issues distract from the over all enjoyment. Will I keep it, not sure yet. What has disappointed me is the overall quality/finish of the vehicle for its cost. Just do not think its worth it. This will most likely be my last LR product due to issues.. I did want a FFRR next, but I am not prepared to suffer the quality problems and lack of dealer effort. D4 2012 Santorini Black gone
RRS 2013 Santorini HSE Black gone
MY2016 RRS HSE Dynamic arrived September, but will it stay.. maybe not.

This is a prime example of how Land Rover deal with QC complaints on vehicles that are still under manufacturers warranty. Imagine how they deal with issues on cars that are out of warranty.......

When you drive an RRS II its how it makes you feel. It is such an awesome car. If you buy an XC90 or anything similar you will regret it from the first time you see a RRS !! There are issues yes, but I had BMWs with loads of issues.

I guess that if you don't mind spending £70K and end up with a car with problems that you don't care about and accept as the norm, then you should be just fine......
