Paint / Panel Finish

Gave the RRS a full clean and polish today in order to take a close up look at the body work

I can conclude that I am happy with the finish although on close inspection I found around a dozen paint defects and some panel pressing issues.

The paint defects appear to be dirt under the paint creating a very small rise up in the paint that you see easily once pointed out - they are very small however and most (4-5) are on the roof.

The more suprising problem I found is with various small panel defects - these appear around compound pressing points around the door window frame and points where the panel pressing is severe. The are again very minor and nothing for me to be really bothered about, however it does make me wonder why LandRover accept these types of pressing quality problems when other manufacturers dont.

Some piccies;

Kaine - I found roughly the same number of defects. The "dust under the paint defect" are all on the roof - three to be exact. Difficult to see, but certainly visible when detailing. I have one other defect on the hood (bonnet) more like a drying fault - barely perceptible and again, only visible if you are detailing. In cleaning the door frames, I found two other defect areas which would be totally unacceptable on the exterior paintwork. These are centimeter or so sized clusters of dust or air bubbling under the paint...at first I thought it was rust Shocked Nothing to make a claim over... but disappointing nonetheless.

There is little doubt about it. Land Rover have a paint quality problem. The opinions on the subject, expressed in this forum, are not the "disgruntled extremes" but rather observations of a generalised trend.

I used meguiars also. Took me 24hrs!
I did the claybar first, then the 123 cleaner, polish, wax.
I'll never do ALL this again, I couldn't sleep my arms were
hurting so bad. Next time it will just be the cleaner wax,
1 step. The meguiars all wheel cleaner (purple bottle) works
great.

took me just over 4 hours today in total - didn't use any claybar however

did you work through the night Shocked now thats dedication

I will only do the full 123 system once every 2 months or so - otherwise it will be just a jetwash down, polish and wax the front end
