Antochat, we have both and I do regularly find myself comparing them. Our D3 is an "S" and the RRS is an "HSE" so its not like for like. Both vehicles share a great deal in terms of components and genetic code - but (IMHO) - the "in use experience" is very different. I have said in the past that the D3 is Function over Form whilst the RRS is Form over Function. There is no doubt that the D3 does more than the RRS because it is designed to have a wider spread of abilities. The RRS lacks the capacity, flexibility and family friendly features of the D3. The RRS does have an edge in driving experience (it is slightly sharper and more nimble due to lower mass and some enhanced suspension components). However the main difference is how you "feel" driving each car and how other people "react" to the car. The RRS feels and looks like a prestige car and commands a reaction from others that is consistent with that. The D3 feels like a more utilitarian (some might even say more "honest") vehicle and again, commands a reaction from others that is consistent with that.

Like Smarticus I have both a RRS HSE and a D3 SE. I would agree with Smarticus's statements. 2005 Zambezi TDV6 - Gone but not forgotten

Put another way, some RRS owners think D3's are for Farmers whilst some D3 owners think RRS's are for footballers (and/or their wives). You pays your money and you takes your choice ....... RRS TDv8 HSE Rimini Disco 4 TDv6 HSE Ipanema Defender 90, 200tdi CSW |

This is a RRS forum.... so we are all biased towards the Sport... The footballer thing is a myth... Prince charles as a Range Rover and he certainly isn't a footballer.. The US is a huge market and they certainly have no idea about football... In Germany, Range Rover owners are successfull business people or "old money" who love British culture....they could easily buy a porsche or a Benz... |
