Buying Advice 3.0 HSE

Hello All,

I am new to the forum and have been looking through the topics on buying advice and know I need some advice myself, I have had a look at through the guides and they are going to be very useful when I go to test drive an RRS.

I currently do around circa 30K miles a year and I am looking for a 3.0 HSE around 2010 reg currently dirve a BMW 330D.
my miles are 90% A roads and motorways.

My question is what mileage should I be looking at as I have read hile milage is not an issue as all major services will have been done? or would i be better off buying something with about 60k on? I would be looking to purcahse form a main stealer for the warrenty.

I would be looking to run it for about 4 years or longer depending on issues before trading in for a newer model

All advice welcome and apologies for starting a another threard on buying advice.

Regards,
Lee

Alternatively just buy private and use the ££££££££ you save to buy a decent private warranty

Get an approved used!!!!

2 Land Rover warranty
2 years of Land Rover Assistance/Recovery(with free courtesy car)
£750 MOT Warranty

I don't think the price difference between private an main dealer is enough to lose out on the warranty an LR assistance. An if you save £1500 what's the point if you're just going to use it to buy a warranty when the Land Rover warranty is by far the best you'll get? An you also get LR Assistance so no need to AA/RAC cover.

Depends on your point of view... my car (for example) is likely to be £3/£4k cheaper than a dealer - that extra saving does provide for one hell of a security blanket and money left over.

As always though there is no right or wrong answer - just what works for your specific circumstance Thumbs Up

So your vehicle is 3k cheaper than a equivalent vehicle at a LR main dealers. So when you sell you car let's assume you throw in 2 years AA roadside assistance best package, 2 years comprehensive warranty equal to Land Rover Approved warranty and MOT warranty to pay in the event of MOT failure upto £750. Now is your car still 3k cheaper than a main dealer ? I think you get my point ....

It's a pretty close call between all options really. The LR warranty is probably worthwhile while you're in a position to have it.

The added cost of main dealer servicing also has to be factored in with the LR Approved warranty, which might mean double the labour rate, as well as genuine parts, when OEM ones can be bought for a lot less. In total, I'm confident the LR warranty would cost more, but it's a little more convenient.

Third option, for some, and my choice: No warranty. DIY maintenance saving a bomb and allowing preventitive stuff without great expense - particularly if you do a high mileage. No hassle/worrying about getting a warranty company to pay out.

As it currently stands, I've spent a fair bit on the D3, BUT, when I think about it, very little would be covered under a warranty anyway. I'd also have to wait for things to fail, rather then prevent them from occuring, but, naturally, this option isn't practical for everyone.

Nope. Just get as low as you can and check history. I asked to see the V5 and then called the previous owner for a chat Thumbs Up Visitor from fullfatrr.com

Mileage matters to a point , but you'll never know what kind of miles they were. Would you prefer 40000 miles towing a caravan and being thrashed. Or 80000 of 70mph motorway cruising

The idea of getting from a dealer is they take part exchanges against new. Then check them over an the good ones they keep to resell and the not so good ones go to auction.

My one was sold new by the dealer and serviced by the dealer I got it from an the compressor failed after a week, so you know you have peace of mind getting from a main dealer. Oh no actually ..... Lol

Also I don't think the dealers keep the very high mileage ones , I think 80k is max?

Hi,
we have just recently gone the "main stealer" route, the warranty was a big Thumbs Up but it was more about being the right car for us as well.

try and see any cars as soon as they come in and Before they get prepped Shocked you can see what condition they really look like, I looked at one car that did not seem to have a very "sympathetic" owner going by the state it got p/ex in, the prep team did an excellent job as you had to look very carefully to see what they had sorted, I still walked away from it Whistle

As for the miles I think if you plan on 4 years and 120k then a car with 60k or 80k will not make much difference

decide what colours and spec you want and buy on condition with history which ever route you go enjoy

Thumbs Up
