Black Smoke! Getting boring

Tdv8 put your foot down black Smoke, when driving little chuffs of smoke and reduced performance.
Getting a little chirping noise when it comes in boost at about 2000rpm
sounds like a little boost leak.
Checked all 4 ic boost pipes, just bought new egr valves which im going to fit on tuesday, iv visually inspected as much of the ic as I can without removing it. Is there a common place they fail? Is it visable?
Any body had any other odd places for boost leaks??

Chirping sound sounds like a leaking turbo gasket, or snapped manifold stud...

just written this a second ago........but here goes again.

Check the right turbo pipe that (as you face the engine on the right) - it comes up from under and joins near the top. It's a jubilee clip. Mine had exactly the same noise, I thought it was normal (I've only had the car a week), but power never seemed right for a V8 - anyway, the noise wasn't normal and it was coming from the leak on the inlet boost side.

You'll probably have a manifold boost pressure error showing too.

Also check which side the black comes from - if it's drivers side (as mine was) then check the opposite side of the engine. The ECU compensates for the air leak and chucks more fuel in the opposite bank, ultimately blowing unburnt diesel out the back in the form of good old black smoke !

Cheers

David

Like iv said a bit further up, I replaced all the exhaust studs and nuts with better quality ones from an astra vxr.
The problem I have here is boost leaking not exhaust

Has anyone ever had to replace the metal boost pipes coming from the turbo? Also does anyone have any pictures of the leak in their intercooler so iv got an idea where their weak point is

When you check the pipes it's worth actually removing them and checking as I recently checked min on the car and all looked good it was only when I took it off I found a split about 2 inches long on the under side of it

Look for visible signs of soot around the pipes - if it's been blowing for a while there will be some evidence and that'll give you a clue where to look.

Iv had all the ic pipes off and scrubbed all the Censored off them and they are all in good nick! Cant see any turbo sweat anywhere around the ic as most if it is covered up. Just want to see an ic that someone has replaced to see where they go. If its in the core or at the edge ect and if anyone in here has any problems with the pipework nearer the turbos

Just an update to my remaining problem
Replaced Egr valves, checked all 4 short rubber hoses on manifold, checked manifold for cracks. When manifold was off the pipe feeding the offside bank was all wet and oily the pipe feeding the nearside was all dry and charred like the inside of and exhaust.??
Built it back up no difference at. Also its been a bit lumpy in the mornings when pulling off... Any more ideas before I drive it in to the sea?? spiteful Range Rover Sport tdv8
