AJ59YYR - Insurance write off CAT D

Afternoon all,

Was wondering if the following vehicle was owned by anyone on here, it's currently up for sale 22,895 as a repaired CAT D stating it was stolen recovered with a few scratches. Not sure a few scratches warrants a CAT D for a 2009 RRS.

I wanted to know if the seller is telling fibs?

Doesn't the Cat D just mean that the previous owner was paid by his insurers when it was stolen. Having been recovered it's been sold on by the insurer to recover some of that payment? This guy is now selling it on again with a bit of profit added for him. 2012 SDV6

If it was as straight forward as the seller is making out and it was simply recovered after being stolen, I would have expected it to be a Cat X or in some cases not recorded at all.

Why would the insurance company devalue the vehicle even further by giving it an unnecessary higher CAT.

I'm thinking perhaps there is more than the seller is letting on. I think sellers who purchase insurance write offs should be made to show before and after pictures when advertising a vehicle.
