Windscreen Crack

Just had to get my windscreen replaced after getting a crack after a large stone hit it. Its since been replaced by Autoglass but since they replaced it, if the wipers are set to auto and I turn the car on, the wipers will wipe once even when its dry. Anyone else seen this?

Thanks

You should be able to see from outside, if the new glass has a insect mark or something in the same location causing it to think its raining

It only does it when you turn the car on. After the first wipe its fine, I will have a look at the windscreen and see.

Thanks

The sensor is probably not bonded to the screen properly. Have a look from the outside at where the mirror attaches to the glass. If the contact looks white, like the below, then it has not been attached properly:

Don't mean to completely hijack the thread but quick straw-poll as to how many of use have had to replace their windscreens so far?

Only reason I ask is I went through 2 on my previous L494 Sport and have got a big crack on my current one - again from a tiny stone chip that wasn't close to the edge of the screen. I've held off on replacing the screen as firstly its on the passenger side and secondly I'm going to be selling the car when my SVR is ready so I'll replace it just beforehand. Knowing my luck (and how weak the screens appear to be) if I'd replaced it a couple of weeks ago when it happened I'd be doing it again now!

Maybe its the general deterioration of the roads being the cause rather than a weak screen, nevertheless at £75 a pop it's not something I enjoy doing.... SOLD - 15 plate Estoril SVR

SOLD - 64 plate Aleutian Silver Supercharged

SOLD - 63 plate Corris SDV6 Autobiography

i had my screen replaced due to a stone chip near the top of windscreen and then watched as the crack slowly got longer as i drove along.when Autoglass replaced the windscreen i did ask if they had done many of the new rrs,and he confirmed they had. They did have the right details for my car but he still had to confirm he had the right screen due to rain sensor, because of previous probs.Could it be the windscrren is not as strong due to weightsaving measures

I had one replaced last year, then a month later an XF in front of me launched a tiny stone which chipped the edge of the screen. Turned into a foot long crack. Definitely not up to the job for this type of vehicle.

Sorry to buck the trend, but I have found mine has taken all kinds of abuse from stones etc and never missed a beat.

It finally conceded last month when a lorry threw up half a brick ( no joke!), which hit the centre of the screen while doing c60mph...... Even then it was a surprisingly small chip that survived 500 miles before only cracking under attempted repair. Then it needed replacing by Autoglass.

Touch wood this one is just as good..... Whistle Now
