TDV8 Turbos

Hi guys, im after some assistance.

Around 6 months ago i serviced and MOT'd my Rnage Rover Sport (57 TDV8) ready to sell when the turbos blew. A guy called Peter came from Land Rover Diagnostics based in Reading came and picked it up and took it back to his garage. originally we were looking at a new engine so i told him he would be waiting for me to obtain a load of the £10-£15,000 so there was no rush to do the job, but after some fault diagnosing he said it was just the turbo's that needed replacing. to cut along story short hes had the car around 6 months now and ive spoken to a few other mechanincs who said it would be eayser to get the original turbos refurbished. ive just spoken to him and he said it would be ready in a few weeks, and im looking at around £5,000 for the work hes done plus the labour. he seems like a nice genuine guy and ive no reason to doubt him, but he told me the original turbos cannot be refurbished. is this correct?

an independant mechanic i spoke to said it should be costing around £800-£900, but Peter said the people at his parts place cannot refurbish these turbos. is he right or am i being led up the garden path with my trousers down?

Basically, he's right. You can get new cores and refub them etc. but the trouble with these things is that the mechanisms can only be calibrated at the factory. New turbos is the only option you can rely on. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

What was the work done? The turbos are no more than around £1k each, so that's significantly overpriced if that's all that was done? Exclamation Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Anything more than £3,500 for a pair of turbos, Inc labour is rather excessive...

Thanks for the swift response guys, the turbo's were £1350 each, so will be having a word with him about the labour costs. there was a £200 recovery fee, gaskets, he cleaned the inlet pipes out, but i too also struggle to see £2K's worth of work. Also the car has depreciated and im now down 6 months on the MOT so ill see if he can sort me out maybe a free MOT or something. im glad to hear that about the turbos tho, thank you very much!
