Fuel consumption

After just over a year my SDV6 is managing to return 28.7mpg (9.8 L/100km) – that's 21,840 miles using 3,460 litres (761 gallons) – used mainly in the country and on motorways with very little urban (and a fair amount of time, though obviously little mileage, off road).

Best tankful was 33.2mpg – 530 miles of heavy but free-flowing motorway almost entirely in adaptive cruise – and worst 25.3mpg. Only other things I've noticed are that premium diesel seems to make no difference whatsoever (my local filling station is often out of regular so it's been used about one tank in six) and the trip mpg is way out – that best tankful showed 37.3mpg, the worst 28.5mpg – it's always 3.5–4.5mpg too optimistic on a tank.

As I measure at every fill-up and don't trust the trip it's difficult to work out individual journeys but my best single run showed 44mpg on the computer. Problem is I just don't believe it...

Fascinated to hear if anyone's doing any better.

I have a totally invalid and useless to RRS owners comparison with my X6.

27.6 mpg (10.2 L/100km), all city and inner suburb driving, using tank fills not computer. Average speed is 23.9 mph (37.4 km/h) using computer.

Useless but interesting (well I think so anyway!)

First 5000km averaged just under 8.0l/100km (mixed town and country) with best of 7.1l/100km on a 300km trip on open road. Talking to dealer today and he reckons it could well improve as engine beds in completely from around 8000km. We shall see !! When I checked mpg the computer was reading 13% optimistic so I changed it from +10 to -3 using a IId tool and it was accurate to my actual fuel used. Mpg over six thousand miles was 29.12 mpg on an old style 2013 hse black SDV6

Various threads on this, Maybe as you've figured, the fuel computer on SDv6 is at best optimistic and best ignored unless you're looking for a warm fuzzy feeling of comfort as to the MPG your achieving.

All round driving, for me, it's showing 28.8 MPG, poppycock! petrol receipts and a calculator show between 25 and 26 all-round with 31 on a run.

Happy Driving!

J

Edit oops, you're one of the newer ones - sorry.. Embarassed Gone - MY12 SDV6, Orkney Grey, Ivory interior, Privacy Glass

Reality Check ! Just returned from a 3100km trip around NZ's North Island. Complete variety of roads - city, motorway, main highway, country, and gravelled mountain goat tracks. Speedo reads 7.2litres/100km but fill to fill calculates at 8.9 litres/100km. Now that's brought me back to earth ! Still way better than previous 2006 2.7l and what a fabulous vehicle to go touring in. R SDV6 (14.5) Corris Grey NZ Spec + door mouldings, mud flaps and tow bar

Just done a trip down to Poole, so I pulled up the journey details via the incontrol and was wondering how much mpg should I take off this reading as I know it's a bit optimistic, I did try and drive like an old man on the way down just to see what I could do, to the first services anyway, after that felt the urge to drive with a bit more vigor. 2015 HSE SDV6 Scotia Grey, ebony / lunar, colour coded, deployable steps, TV, sliding pano and a few other bits. I had allowed for that!

Best I've ever had (according to the display) was 32.5 mpg tootling around France last summer. But I'm on 22" wheels which poss doesn't help. I'm not going higher than 36.7 mpg Laughing
