Practical Accessories

The Boot Liner post got me thinking......

Any thoughts on really useful and practical accessories for the L494?

I think the luggage net is a must to stop small things moving and clattering around in a big boot. I have also been thinking about the collapsible boot tidy.

I won't be getting the LR seat covers though....the ones highlighted in the Boot Liner post seem much better for quality and price.

I bought one of those on Ebay and it has proved extremely useful. Unlike my previous L322 FFRR, the boot of the RRS is much smaller and completely lacks little nooks and crannies to store stuff, particularly if you have the full size spare wheel

Re. the double/triple USB charger ... I read somewhere that unless the output is 2 Amps or more then it's fairly useless at charging i.e. at 1 Amp all it does (at best) is keep it from draining.

Anyone got any tips or advice on this issue? Need a set up for at least 2 iPads and a bluetooth audio device!

Thanks

The trouble with USB, as you suggest, is that it's not designed to provide the current which an iPhone - and especially an iPad - demand when charging. The official limit for a USB port is 500mA so it's important to check what the socket is rated for.

It's better in my experience to buy a 3 to 1 cigar lighter adapter and you can then use 3 cigar lighter to USB adapters which take the 12-14v from the car battery and convert it to a stable 5v. The total current you can draw from the cigar lighter sockets is typically 10A and because of the power conversion technology used (for the technically minded, a switching regulator), supplying 2.1A at 5v will typically draw 1 - 1.2A at 12v, depending on how efficient the converter is.

I bought my 3 to 1 adapter from Halfords and the USB adapters from Maplin.

The design of the USB connector is long overdue for a rethink, especially making it reversible along the lines of the Apple Lightning connector. Mark

USB connectors defy all known principles: try and insert one way, find it won't fit. Turn upside down and try again, and find it also doesn't fit. Then turn it over again and it goes in. Amazing.
