United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
2006 2.7 Engine sound.

Hi guys,

I have noticed since buying my RRS that when engine cold it sounds nice and meaty but when the temperature gets up there it starts to sound abit knocky/tappy.

I had the oil and filter changed a week ago but still sounds the same?

Any ideas guys?

Cheers Craig

The 'nice and meaty' noise is just the Viscous Coupling fan. Bodsys Brake Bible

Haha yes no more Corona while typing.

But sorry i dont think i made my self clear.

What i ment was when the RRS is cold the engine sound nice and strong but when it gets to temperature it sounds really tappety and knocky if that makes sense. sounds like an old tractor when the oil seems to get hot and thin.

Can i try a slight thicker oil and see if it makes any difference or is that a bad idea?

I have also found out that my RRS had a brand new engine in May 2012 at Guy Salmon Maindstone so has only covered 20k at the moment.

Cheers Craig

Ah I see.
Doesn't sound right, the hydraulic tappets do become noisey but not to tractor volume unless there is an oil feed problem. The oil must remain the same, if you play it will show up if they test oils.
If it were me, I'd land it to a dealer and let them diagnose it then you can involve LR if there is something wrong. Our disco gets a bit tappy when it's due an oil change but never sounds harsh. Other possibility is a sensor is going down and injector timing isn't spot on causing a knock.
Get it checked out. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Cheers for the advise much appreciated.

Yes will get it booked in ASAP.

I have got a little OBD2 computer and had a little plug in and no faults where showing, and its not under powered or anything so fingers crossed it will be something simple i hope anyway.

Thank you again

Craig
