Australia 2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 S Zermatt Silver

I've only had two RRS. A 2010 3.0 TDV6 and the new 2014 3.0 SDV6.

I go for Power/Economy/Reliability and find the diesel 3.0ltrs tick those boxes. Would love the Supercharged but feel it would be purely for the odd rush of adrenaline and think the more regular expensive stops for refuel may dampen the feeling. The Diesel V8, whilst I've heard wonderful things about it (I like V8s), isn't much that much better than the V6, it just does everything more a more relaxed aplomb.

The SDV6 is far superior in power and economy over the TDV6. As for reliability, I've never had any problems with my original 2010 and thus, went with them again for the 2014.

The SDV6 suits my driving needs. City (if you can call Darwin a City), poking around say Kakadu and other great 4WD North Australian back of beyond sites and the ubiquitous 3,000klm run down the centre of Australia to get to the next Capital City.

It really depends what you really need, what you'd really like and what you can sensibly afford. The SDV6 was my choice. 2014 SDV6 HSE, Panoramic Roof, 825w sound, Surround Cameras
Gone: MY10, TDV6 Sport, Zermatt Silver, Sunroof, 18" Rally alloys.
2006 Pajero Exceed, Silver

SDV6 would seem to be the best choice. Decent economy and near enough to TDV8 performance to make no difference. The V6 diesels are now "mature" so we should see fewer engine issues in time (EGRs etc. are going to be long term issues on any engine, sadly).

If fuel costs aren't an issue then the S/C would be best. Good "go" and the V8 noise!

TDV8 is lovely but...turbo issues do seem to be more common than with the V6 diesels. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

TDV6:-
6 Speed gearbox, with gearlever.
245 BHP,
Manual tailgate.
Available in, 2.7, 3.0L engines.

SDV6:-
8 Speed gearbox, with rotary gearshift.
255 BHP
Electric tailgate opening/closing
Available in 3.0L engine only.

I've had the 2.7 TDV6, It was sluggish till i had it remapped, that improved it, but still it wasn't upto the power of the TDV6 3.0L engine.

Now i've got the SDV6 which is a massive improvement over the 2.7 TDV6, and much improved over the TDV6 3.0L engine.
Also the interior was upgraded in late 2009 when they brought out the 3.0L engine. The 3.6 TDV8 engine was available right upto 2010 with the upgraded interior too.
My choice was the SDV6 because it suites my needs and is a cracking all rounder, and i still get around 30 mpg. Thumbs Up

Thank you so much. If i can save abit more and get the sdv6 i will if not i will have to get a tdv6 3.0 2010 model so it's got the face lift. Is it best by private or from a dealer so it comes with warranty? .

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

I have had a 3.6TDV8, a 3.0TDV6 and now a 4.4TDV8 in an FF. I have also driven a 3.0SDV6 with the 8 speed box.

The V8's have a much, much wider torque band than the V6's which only really pull in a very narrow rev band. I think the 8 speed box was a sticking plaster for this limitation and does improve it a bit. If you do a lot of motorway driving, or long cruising the ability of the V8's to pull and accelerate in the 50-70mph speed range is much better than the V6's which seem to just make a lot of noise and change gear a lot without actually pulling nearly as well as the V8s. If you mostly do town driving there is virtually no difference - apart from the turbo lag they all suffer from but I don't think this is too bad; I don't spend much time flooring the accelerator when pulling away from stationary as it makes the passengers sick!

I have never driven the 5.0SC so can't comment but I think the TDV6 and SDV6 are pretty terrible engines to drive because of the very narrow peak torque band. So much so that when my 3.0TDV6 was written off in an accident I rejected getting another sport and went for the FF because I could get the 4.4TDV8 - although it handles like a coal barge!

I should add that I also had the most mechanical problems with the 3.0TDV6 but I did own it the longest (40k miles and three and half years). Issues were turbo actuators sticking (causing a break down), unexplained trips into restricted performance mode among others.

Just my opinion.

i had a 2.7tdv6 and it was gutless, i now have ml63 so would recommend you go 5.0sc as its same power at the ml, im currently only averaging 2 mpg worse in the ml63 as well compared to my v6 diesel

Mine's a TDV8 and I love everything about it. The power is great and not too bad on fuel, averaging 25 mpg based on fill-ups over 6 months. Around 30 on a run.
