Very easy, if you buy the kit It's basiclay plug and play.

I just bought a £7 trailer plug with 2 meters of wire and made my own. I had some old conectors at work and just removed the pins. Fitted them into the blanks that plug into the trailer connectors behinds the near side boot trim. Spent 5 minutes with a test lamp checking what pin does what and soldered up the right connections.

I paid around £130 from the Local dealer. It's around 2 hours work if you've never done it before.
All the connections are behind the near side boot panel.
It's all plug and play.......................

You could go down the cheap looms from china/far east................... but do you really want to encourage electrical gremlins at a later date ?

Good luck.

If you buy the plug and play set, do you need to have the tow software function activated on the car too? Or will switching the park sensors off manually be the only bugbear to put up with if you don't? Current: Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

You don't need to have the software update for it to work.

I had mine done for free when I had it serviced, as it's easy once the car is plugged in.

The software update stops the car raising and lowering automatically when Terrain Response is selected, useful to avoid the back end of the trailer being inadvertently grounded Thumbs Up Over for a visit from disco3.co.uk

There is a difference between the 2009 and the 2010 model years.
2009 you can fit and everything will work (but won't stop you as CDS describes)
The 2010/11 model year, more often than not, needs to be enabled for it to work with the correct 12n/s or euro 13pin setup. Bodsys Brake Bible

You need to make sure the rear fogs are disabled when the trailer is plugged in. Thumbs Up In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

The fog lamp cut out is sometimes undertaken by a simple metal strip in the tow socket, but not sockets have this.

You also need to make sure the rear parking sensors are disabled as well.
My sport is an 08 and it required coding.
Should add mine is the 13 pin euro plug In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

So if I have a september 2009 (MY10 facelift) does this fall into the category of 2009 or 2010/11 in terms of what I'll need to do regarding fitting/activation?

Also, I'm guessing the fog light being de-activated is only de-activated on the car but still allows the fog light on the trailer to work? (My trailer is over 1.3m wide and legally requires a fog light to be fitted and working). Current: Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 HSE in Stornoway Grey

It's a CCF edit IRRC Bodsy.....I always assumed it was to stop the reflection of the red lamps when towing something big like a caravan.... Over for a visit from disco3.co.uk
