Egr valves, blank or remove??

I've just ordered some basic blanking plates after reading on here that the egr valves could be the cause of my cars occasional lazyness, (confirmed by diagnostics). Question is should I blank or get a full removal kit, anyone shed any light on the pro's and con's of each option??

Both methods deliver the same results.

If you are fussy, and are either mechanically minded or know of a cheap spanner who'd do it for you then you'd probably opt for the full removal

If you are looking at doing it DIY without much experience in mechanics, then the block off kit suits it's purpose. RRS gone

Thanks for that, budgets a bit tight after forking out for a new park brake mechanism so I'll fit the blanking plates myself. I've read that I don't need gasket sealer, would you agree??

When I was going to do mine (on my old D3) The kit just had 2 oval stainless steel tabs that block the EGR pipes... that was it, no aditional gaskets. Thumbs Up RRS gone

No Mikey,

Some do, some remove the butterfly valves only, or you can keep the units in place and just blank off the feeds to the intake manifold (pre 2007 cars only) RRS gone

Hmm does not look like it... the instructions show this kit removes the pipework but not the actual EGRs. RRS gone

Rather than start a new thread....

Had the car faults read today, and one of the egr valves was on the fault list, so thought it may be best to blank them off (2006 2.7).

With the numerous kits that are out there, whats the difference? Some are a tenner, some are £50?

One more query, this particular seller is stating that the suicide pause on the 2.7 is being caused by the egr valves, I have limited knowledge but didnt think it was down to that?

OFTEN WITH THE ENGINE YOU WILL FIND WHEN PULLING OFF FROM A STANDSTILL THERE WILL BE A 2-3 SECODN DELAY BEFORE THE ENGINE PICKS UP. THIS IS DUE TO THE EGR.

The "suicide pause" is usually caused by the gearbox defaulting to second gear to pull away. Put it in CS 1st as you pull up and you'll find it pulls away much more sharply. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Blank and leave the pipe work in place, then at MOT time everything will look normal.

Remapping does not fix the pause - it is a gearbox programming issue. 07MY RRS TDV6

The remap has helped, and the Pause is a lot less noticeable. My drive to work this morning was quite pleasurable as she skipped through the gears!

Is there anything that can be done with the gears, ive read about re-setting them so they "learn" your driving style.

Back to the egr plates, is there a big difference between the kits out there? I'm presuming stainless steel would be a must, but apart from that all the kits look the same! 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

I've used one of the cheap sets, simply two blanking plates, worked a treat. Fitted myself following the instructions with the kit, the only problem I had was the rounding off of two of the bolts, very soft metal, used an irwin socket to remove successfully. No need to remove anything and under the hood looks untouched. I believe the more expensive kits allow you to remove pipework etc, but I didn't feel the need to do that, as I believe it in no way improves performance. Personal choice?
