2005 RRS HSE has gone insane.... Update: resolved

Hi

This morning my RRS told me that "Transmission range change is unavailable"......

It drove absolutely fine though with no other problems but after it had been parked up for a while it started going mad! It was unlocking and locking itself, the sat nav etc was also switching on and off and the hazards were on Neutral After some trial and error, I found that pressing the brake pedal calmed it down and it's now sitting quietly with a piece of wood holding the pedal down.

Any thoughts people?

Cheers

Mike

That's what I was thinking but it seems like a lot of craziness to be caused by a faulty switch...... Oh for the days when a faulty brake light switch just meant your brake lights didn't come on 😬

Plenty of instances of brake light switch causing these issues on here. Some even go so far as to carry a spare!
They apparently fail from internal arcing and its a 2 stage switch which also sends input to the computer.

Just fitted a new switch and all seems well in the old girl's brain again Very Happy

Took the old switch apart (because I always feel compelled to see how things work..... or don't in this case) and there are clear signs of arc damage around the switch contacts.

Hooray for owners forums Thumbs Up
