Delay in reverse gear.

For a couple of days wife has been saying RRS slow pulling away. I didn't pay much attention as thought she was on about the fact it pulls away in 2nd.

It turns out she meant in reverse! We have a slight sloped drive. This morning I went to back out and nothing. Just revved a bit. Took my foot off, gave it a few seconds and tried again and it worked fine.

Anyone have any clue what this may be?

my sprinter van does that, when I have to do a quick move to reverse it down the drive im usually in the middle of the main road when it decides to do it, during the summer I replaced the torque converter an the whole control valve module in the gear box and changed the fluid and filter.... and it still dos it!
how many miles has your car done?

I've seen this as well with my MY13 (old body style). It happens one in awhile and usually on a download slope when I back into my drive. I'd say it happens about 1 out of 6 times. Sometimes, it magically just fixes itself after a second or two and starts to go, but most of the time I have to pop it out of R and then back in to get it to engage.

I've got 95k on clock. It's only happend to me once but wife says she's had it loads

Is this the old 'seized pivot on the outside of the gearbox' problem?

If so - easily solved with new parts costing only a few pounds and a 20 minute DIY fix. You have to get under the car and remove the gearbox undertray though. Search the Disco 3 site and there are loads of threads with part nos, instructions etc. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
