It is listed on the general configurator as 'market specific', not listed on the UK one, and I am told 'should' be available in the UK from January.

If you go to a generic configurator (for example Montenegro), HUD is given under Multimedia options and listed with:

Head Up Display*

The convenient new laser-based Head Up Display projects a selection of vehicle data onto the windscreen in the driver's sightline for quick and easy access.

*Please contact for local Land Rover Dealer for details and availability

It requires the solar attenuating windscreen too, presumably to aid the reflection.

Has anyone seen the RRS HUD in action? What does it show?
I currently have an X5 M50D with HUD (it is really good) and plan to go with an RRS next but not until it has HUD.
The dealer in NZ has told me that HUD is not available in NZ (even after the recent MY15 announcements), which seems a bit odd if it only displays on car stats and info.
So what inputs does the RRS HUD need other than ones generated in the car already? 2007 Range Rover Sport Supercharged (great car, now gone)

FWIW, I have drawn the line at the HUD. The car I've ordered has a raft of driver aids and I'm taking a punt on them being useful in the real world. I'm sure any info on the HUD is already available on the driver display and I expect the main benefit will be having the information projected as if it is far away which avoids the need to refocus close up. That might help reduce eye-strain, I suppose.

The most useful one for me is the surround cameras. Only yesterday, in my Evoque, they allowed me to thread the car through an entrance which was so narrow I had to fold the mirrors in to get through. Without the cameras, I wouldn't have tried it. Mind you, the RRS is even wider so I wouldn't have attempted it either, cameras or no. Mark

HUD is missed once you've had it. From the manual:

Quote:
The information displayed is as follows:

1. Current gear selected.
2. Follow mode is active.
3. Cruise control set speed.
4. Cruise control or Adaptive cruise control
5. Traffic sign recognition, identified speed limit.
6. Current vehicle speed.
7. Turn-by-turn navigation instructions

HUD was slated in the UK for MY15.5 (i.e. from January) and officially announced as an option on the Sport in November. However, the configurator was updated at the weekend and it still isn't there*(but neither are the updated engines and still the same errors in some options), and I heard from one source that it wouldn't be available until September! That said, I'm always told something different by each person I talk to.

*ETA although is on the generic one

HUD

Just a bit more Electronics to go wrong, and only able to be fixed by a main agent,at a exorbitant price. All these new electronics, like low fuel warning,Oil needs topping up Doors open etc.Take away the drivers thinking ability. I know there are still drivers who put £10 of fuel in their car and wait for a warning before they put another drop in. and those who dont know where the dipstick is. Also lane deviation, cant drivers see that they have crossed the white lines on the road? Or know what gear the are in,or what speed they have selected for their cruise control. And why do we need to see current speed,is the speedo not big enough Whistle itisme

Thanks philmw thats just what I needed.

Once used, it is hard to imagine not using it. I thought that it would just be a novelty in my current car but now I really appreciate it as a driving aid.

So HUD reads the road signs and the NZ ones are not the same as UK ones. Thats is why its not ready for NZ then. 2007 Range Rover Sport Supercharged (great car, now gone)

Traffic Sign recognition is a separate option. The current speed limit, as read from the sat nav and overridden by any limit the front-facing camera recognizes, can be displayed on the dash (and apparently the HUD).

I have to agree, I have had HUD on both my X5 and now on the X6 and I wouldn't want to be without it. If it's available, get it.
