all this fuss, just for a coolant / antifreeze?

so, I've been doing a few motorway miles lately and need to top up on my coolant. Local stealer is a journey away. My local texaco garage will only buy the Texaco Havoline if I take the entire box off his hands.

I came across this (quite old) post http://forum.landrovernet.com/archive/index.php/t-164726.html about OAT antifreeze, which got me reading even more posts about if it's possible to mix any and every OAT together.

Can anyone enlighten me here, must I buy Havoline or can any good quality OAT antifreeze, such as those on opieoils, be poured in?

Thanks Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

I've used the Halfords OAT coolant - it's got the Ford approval code on it so it should be ok. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

ok thanks for that. I was wondering about the FORD spec coolant, as the owners manual refers to "WSS-M97B44". When I google this spec I find "WSS-M97B44-D", i.e with a "D" added to the end. Apparently this refers to OAT orange coolant by GM.

after reading around, I'm now 100% sure that Havoline isn't necessary. Instead it's the OAT coolant this is necessary. As for the color, apparently it doesn't need to be orange as the color is just a dye, but i'll stick with orange to match the coolant already in the system.

so yes the Halfords one is fine. but i see you get more bang for your buck at opie, who were kind to email me yesterday re: their fuchs coolant, 5-liters for 14 quid (http://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-77984-fuchs-maintain-fricofin-ll-orange-long-life-antifreeze-oat-technology-5050-premix.aspx).

thanks again guys. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
