Hardwiring a Mini 0801 dash camera

Hi all,

Just after a bit of advice.

I've got a mini 0801 dash cam with GPS that I'd like to mount behind the rear view mirror and hard wire the power through the base/mount.

Where's the best place to pick up a switched power from rather than a permanent live? Should I just run the power lead round and down to under the dash and mount the 12v/5v converter under there?

I want to use a non-permanent live just in case I forget to turn the unit off and then don't use the car for a week.

Cheers,

'tang.

Wasn't there something on here recently about taking power from the overhead console lights?

Ah, my searches didn't find it but by hunting I did find Muddy's guide for hardwiring a blackvue that will work for me.

Cheers!

Someone also said "try searching for radar detection installations" and this one was perfect for installing in the camera using the switched live in the overhead console.

^^ Thanks for that. Helped me to do the same discrete install of the 0801 Thumbs Up

I used a simple hard wire kit and shortened the cable so there isn't so much excess flapping about in the overhead console and some double sided tape to fix the little step down box to the steel frame up there. Have to say for an outlay of about £50 and an hour or so installing it is surprisingly good.

Only thing I might change is swop the adhesive pad on the windscreen for a black one instead of the supplied white one that looks a bit Censored from outside. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

guys these camera's are a must ive just had a 2 month battle with a 3rd party insurer, i was hit side on and my van was a total loss, i sent the footage to my insurer who then never bothered to pass this on to the 3rd insurer so they disputed the accident, only when they sent the footage did they admit liability and payed out, without this £50 camera i would have to settle in court and probably 50/50
