So what to change as soon as I get it?

My RRS TD6 HSE is due next week sometime....

Although I guess I shouldn't be, Rolling Eyes I've been thinking about what I can do to make it look better than it already does. Ideas floating around in my head are:

- Upgrade to 20" alloys (Stormers preferably, like a lot of you seem to have done). Sales guy during test drive said this was not possible, which reading a lot of other posts here simply doesn't seem to be correct. Is this supposed vibration anything to worry about? Is it even noticeable? Long term effects etc?

- Supersport grille and side vents. Given my car will be Java, I think this makes sense. I see there's a "box set" of grille and vents on eBay for about £95 at the moment. I take it they are both quite straightforward DIY fits?

- I haven't spoken to the dealer yet re accessories such as sill plates, side steps etc.

What have others had done? Do the choices above sound sensible things to do?

Cheers

Hi Shmoogle, congrats on your expected delivery -it's exciting!
As for the upgrades, i would def. recommend the grill and the side vents, these are straight forward 5 mins installations- i would also look into changing the exhaust tips, the ones under the HSE & TDV6 are simply too wimpy for a big, nice car that the RRS is. the 20" looks great - a lot of people do experience vibrations - this is dependent on a damping steering rack - - Robert

Thanks Gribnau!

Are there any pics of the upgraded exhaust tips that I could see? Again, I assume these are DIY fittings too?

Cheers

If you take a look at Toodeeps gallery he has done most of what you are considering, here is a link to a photo of his car

United States 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Java Black

Well I still have at least a month before I receive my car, but this is what I have already bought.

Side Steps

Mud Flaps

Oak wood kit to get rid of all the cherry wood in the car. (in the U.S you don't have an option, you can only get the cherry wood unless you can find a special edition car)

Overfinch Tiger wheels fitted with Perrili tires

I guess now all i need is the car

Had Stormers fitted by the dealer before delivery. I am now approaching 11,500 miles have not noticed any vibrations at all, no uneven tyre wear just marginally more tyre noise than on a standard 19” equipped dealer demonstrator that I drove recently.

My understanding of the vibration issue is that it affects some and not all TDV6’s dependent on a type of steering rack – there may even be a post on here about it but because of the possibility of some being affected the corporate line has been to withdraw the option. At least that’s what I am told. Ford after all are a little wheel/ tyre sensitive still - remember the Bronco disasters they had. 11 XFR

Thanks M@verik - interesting to hear your experiences of the Stormers. Smile

If you don't mind me asking, did your dealer weigh off the cost of the factory-fit 19s against your Stormers? As I know my car hasn't quite reached the dealer yet (although I know it's been called) - I want to make sure I know how to approach the dealer on the topic of dealer-fit accessories.

Cheers

Shmoogle,

I didn't try to get the cost offset because I expected to go for a RRS SC if I got on with the TDV6. When that next one arrives (aiming for April next year, but holding on to see if a bigger Td engine is introduced) I will swap the wheels over.

Also I have the option of putting off road tyres on the original wheels if I get even more adventurous than I have been so far - having two sets of wheels suited me.

Sorry I can't be more helpful. 11 XFR

OK, as promised - had that chat with the dealer and basically his view was that a set of unused V-spoke 19s was no good to them, so wouldn't be interested in trading them against a set of Stormers. Crying or Very sad

Next best thing was that the parts dept were willing to discount them to the tune of £50 per alloy, so I could get a set for £1800... but then they'd need rubber, so I doubt I would get much change out of £2.5k all told. I might just wait and see if I'm any more impressed with the 19s when I get the car.... I think they're a bit ineffectual personally. Alternatively, keep a watchful eye on eBay...

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Bonatti Grey

Shmoogle,
I'm in the same boat.

I want to get 20" stormers for forthcoming tdv6 hse, replacing the 19" purely on the fact that I think the car look miles better - but my dealer is saying it is not an option ** now ** ......(ie. it has been withdrawn because of the steering column vibration/braking issue at 65-55mph) - grrr (this is despite the fact that the issue has been documented here and it seems just needs a check on the antivibration steering column being fitted, rather than the normal one)

Agree 2.5k does seem a lot to upgrade the wheels though - it also counts as a modification for my insurance although only £30 difference. I guess that'w why there have been several sets of 19" on eBay over the last month as people also do the upgrade themselves ....

Will be interested if you end up upgrading after experiencing the 19".
