Performance of the SDV6 with On/Off road pack vs. SDV8

Hi All,

Can someone that has the SDV6 engine with On/OFf road pack (Dynamic Response, TR 2, Torque vectoring, Hi/Lo range..) sure the experience in terms of performance in the real world driving, such as overtaking?

I am curious since, it seems that this pack adds quite a wheight to the vehicle, since the SDV8 for example, which includes this pack, weighs almost 300 kg (around 600 pounds) more then the SDV6. Don't believe the SDV8 engine is so much heavier?
The V8 supercharged petrol is around 200 kg more (~400 pounds).

I would like this pack, in order to decrease the roll in corners as much as possible as well as want to have a no-compromise off-road system, but I am bit afraid that if I opt for this pack on a SDV6 it might make it a bit sluggish?

See other area's on the forum , lots of info SDv8 V SDV6

I am lucky to have both and SDV8 is a long way in-front of the SDv6 esp in real world 30-50 50-70 Over takes etc.

Fuel consumption again real world 2-3 MPG diff at most as you do not hit the peddle as hard in the V8 v the V6

And yes you are correct the weights are all wrong when you start adding up the extra's, the engine is just 80 Kilo's i am told not the stupid numbers that are quoted from a Bogo SDv6 with nothing on it, Even my wife who has the 3.0 has used my SDv8 405 and comments on the diff between the 2 engines as massive ! SDv8 with the suspension changes over the V6 make it a far more involving drive and all round performer. 2014 5.0SC AB

Gone 5.0 SC

Thanks for the feedback!

I also found this article which agrees with the conclusion that the SDV6 is a bit underpowered (With the on/off road pack as well):

The hi/low range transfer box adds 15kg to the overall weight of the RRS. The other bits won't add a huge amount more.

As for Car Magazine saying it's not fast enough, others seem to think otherwise:

2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hmm... But if the hi/lo range is just 19 kg and torque vectoring is just a software.
Adaptive dynamics and dynamic response I would assume is composed of just some sensors and software.
Not sure how the locking differentials are implemented...

So how come the SDV8 is almost 300 kg heavier and supercharged petrol 200 kg?

I also noticed that the fuel tank is bigger on 8 cylinder machines, but that is something like 30 liters more.

Also about the AuoCar review as I understood their car is without the on/off road pack and the CAR magazine was equipped with it.

Where are you getting the 300kg difference from? At launch, several reviewers quickly pointed out that the weights quoted by LR were way out. There was a big thing made about the new RRS being 400kg lighter than the old one. It is if you choose to compare the old S/C or TDV8 and new TDV6 with no kit. The reality is that the new RRS is not hugely lighter than the old one in most trim engine/trim packages.

I'm still of the opinion that the on/off road pack doesn't add more than maybe 25kg to the mass of the RRS (15kg for the transfer box and maybe 10kg for additional sensors / trick rear diff). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The SDV8 is rated at 2398 kg as opposed to 2115 kg for the SDV6 (so 283 kg heavier), in the official Land Rover tech. specification documents:

Note that it says weight "from" and then the figure. I believe the SDV6 doesn't get down to that weight in reality because it has higher spec (more kit such as multi-movement seats etc. and all of that adds weight) than the base weight (which was the bsaic SE version). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The weight reduction isn't really a reduction though...they removed all the bits and made them optional to make a big deal that the car was lighter than previous version and for emissions etc

Add the toys back on its comparable to the last sport. Mike

More Power ist There, more sound also. But Power is not everything.

For me the main concern is the V8 adds more than 100 kg to the front arches, this changes the Balance of the car negative to the old FWD Feeling.
Thats the reason why LR delivers, the car only with all the adaptive dynamic etc, to recover this as much as possible.

I drove all of them, and for sure with all the Engines the Drive is better than with the Diesel V8.
If V8, Petrol, thats Power, Sound and the RRS in the right Balance.

Just my personal feel after testing them, and i owned 8 FFRR and 2 RRS.
