I'm a newbie, as I am looking to purchase our 1st RRS soon

We originally were going for the 2.7 V6 diesel, but have been advised it lacks power and the consumption is pretty pony too, so was swaying towards the V8 diesel, until I got chatting to a guy who lives near me, he has a white 2006 4.2 supercharged RRS, he has had newer front and back bumpers, black 22" wheels, wrapped white with new leather interior with a private plate, looks very smart and was shocked when it told me it was a 2006 model, looks a lot newer, he has also had a LPG conversion to help with consumption.

Didn't have time to ask him about the LPG conversion, but has got me thinking about going down the same route, we have about £20-22k, so I thought i'd ask for some advice on here -

What are your thoughts on this?

Is the 4.2 SC the way to go?

Is an LPG conversion worth doing?

What is the consumption before and after a conversion for the 4.2 supercharged

Seen a nice 2006 4.2 SC (2010 spec) with 64k on the clock for £18k at a garage near me - Does this seem a good price?

carry out a forum search, and you'll find that gassing is not an option and can become very expensive and troublesome. If you want MPG and power go for the 4.4 diesel - but I'd still go for an un-gassed S/C anyday, as long as your weekly mileage figures aren't too high  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

I went through the same process as you when looking for a surpercharged sport and after a load of research I decided against a LPG converted model - I even went to see one, it actually drove really well I couldn't tell the driving difference between gas and petrol.

I spoke to JE engineering (who do a proper conversion) and to do a conversion properly you have to take the head off and re-do the valves/seats and because the job is so costly this usually doesn't get done - which then leads to issues later on.

I eventually bought a black S/C and it's brilliant, don't do loads of miles so it's ok......Best stick to a standard and enjoy the grin factor

I also thought about getting a 4.2 with lpg conversion but then I thought "what the hell" !!

How low and how high can you get the mpg as I was thinking of buying a sc model

At the moment I am getting about 13.2 mpg, the lowest I have seen it is about 11 mpg, but I will keep trying

I did not get it for the mpg, I got it to have a lot of fun with it, I only use it at weekends.

If you are going to use it as a daily commute to work or you are worried about mpg etc then I would suggest you get a diesel.

Why would you buy a massive 4.2 Supercharged car then worry about fuel costs and mpg.

I am not worried about mpg just thought I would ask town mpg and motorway mpg of some body who drives one to give me a good idea. If I do go far it's 550 motorway miles and rest would be local at weekends

Sitting at 75mph on a motorway with cruise control gives a bit better mpg, about 14.8 mpg if I remember when I last did it.

I think it gave a range of 300 miles on a full tank on the motorway.

mine, over a 500 mile trek from Cardiff to Manchester then Leeds, and back, with a few short trips in between, I get an average of 18MPG and I never go over the 90MPH speed limit that are on our motorways. At 70MPH for about 10 miles, can't last any longer than that at that speed !, I can get 19.5MPG, around town, full throttle it's down to 11.5 - 12MPG. Consumption has been a lot better since I had the Terraclean system flush out all my carbon deposits.

4.4v8 engine will be your best option for an LPG conversion straight forward conversion no issues, brc system great piece of kit

I've got a Supercharged thats done 37000 miles with a LPG conversion, 50000 in total. Was told by a converter that there was always lots of problems with the electrical side of a conversion but mine runs fine.

I use the LPG for long runs and Petrol for casual blasts around. Most people don't like the idea of LPG as there are so many rumours of failures but before this I had a FFRR with LPG and no problems with that one either.

Equivalent costs work out around 27 mpg by the way. 2006 Supercharged
