What happened to the original engine?

Broken con rod, melted pistons, oil pump casing?

I would not trust a "reconditioned" TDV6 purely because you cannot buy parts to recondition it, and there are no repair instructions from JLR ro rebuild it

Have done a few top end rebuilds. Nothing difficult there...

it had been run low on oil and picked up on no 2 on the crank, was still running just had a knocking rod so i have had crank ground and hardened 1 new rod, very expensive mains and big ends ,its just ready to be built now,my mechanic is saying skim the heads but im not sure as they were fine before, not trying to save money as i want it right but just cant see the point of skimming if there flat,am i wrong Confused silverRRS 2.7 TDV6 22"WHEELS FULL COLOUR CODE,STEPS,REMAP..gone

Interested to know where you bought a "new" conrod Thumbs Up

Mains and big ends are very expensive, as you have found out Rolling Eyes

As for the heads, I would have them skimmed, and the glow plugs removed/drilled out while the heads are already off the car Thumbs Up
Will save you lots of grief in the future

If you're fitting just the one con-rod you might be advised to weigh it (with its big-end cap and bolts) and makes sure it is in balance it with the others.

If you've reground the crank its also a good idea to assembly the engine's 'bottom end' and check and measure the clearances on all the bearings - main and big-end. Its quite common for the shells to differ and often by swopping them about you can match the crank journals to the bearing shell to get the correct cold clearances.

Spend the time now and you'll end up with a smoother and more reliable engine.

Hi Gazzc Very Happy I'm in the process of waiting to repair my engine Censored , Saving pennies Shocked
Do you know what make of bearings were used Ie Fedral Mogel - bearing numbers or identity marks :~))), etc. I've found a few bearings that will fit but not sure if there be Ok for a powerful diesel engine.
When you had the crank reground, do you know what size is was ground to before the harden/nitride was carried out? As it must of been ground probably 20 thou below .5mm .5mm=about 40 thou so the nitride process built up to above finished level before polishing.
I've seen bearings from Brit part for over £600 Censored Censored and there is someone who is selling them on Ebay for just under £400 but i'm not sure if i trust them. Evil or Very Mad
I'd want to know what the internal/external measurements are, so i would be happy that they would fit properly. As it's would be no good having bearings with an outer diameter 10 thou below the 75mm of my main bearings which would lead to hardly any bearing crush.
Also would you know how much the nitride process cost?
Good luck and keep us posted, If you want some rebuild info, i have a citroen C6 Technical information on PDF which covers the engine, I also have a jaguar rebuild manual which covers all the engines including TDV6 in PDF if you need them Thumbs Up
Cheers Marc Very Happy

Hi Marc. My engine is built and fitted. I paid 100 for crank grind. 140 for the nitride 72 hour hardening process 40.00 to get the crank re polished 400 for the .5 oversized bearings I'm not sure of the exact clearances etc as i left it up to the guy that ground the crank. He advised me of correct bearings and end float oh and had to buy a second hand rod as mine was shot. I was advised to definately not rebuild without nitriding crank as it would not last.
