Staggered Tyre Size / Spacers

I've just had my 22" alloys refurbed and need some new tyres for them.

I currently have 285/35/22 all round but wondered if anyone has staggered the rears before by putting on a larger rear tyre width?

Also, has anyone ever fitted spacers on a RRS - If so what size would you recommend?
