Incontrol

Morning All
Will be having to confirm any last tweaks for my March build RRS any minute and the big question for me is Incontrol. It doesnt seem the most economical way of getting a tracker (which i would like) but when I read the below
http://newsroom.jaguarlandrover.com/en-in/...ntrolapps/
I did start to wonder if the app element of it might be useful, The clunky satnav on the RRS is a concern and I am wondering of Incontrol will ultimately provide a way around it or help future proof to a degree future infotainment upgrades.
Anyone have any views?

The satnav/infotainment is rumoured to be upgraded on the MY15 model (delivery starting september/oktober). I fear your march build won't have that upgrade. It would be nice to know whether the software on the current cars will be upgradable to the new version. Ok, you can't upgrade the screen in a simple way, but it would be nice to know if the software would be upgradable. Final release specs were rumoured to be announced february/march...

InControl was taken off the MY14.5 list but apparently should be 'specable' again from this month.

ETA: Just noticed the Configurator is back and so in InControl

As you were....

with something new like this, i would always be inclined to wait for version 2 to be release when they have ironed out all the faults users find in the launch version of incontrol

much as i would like to wait for version 2 I assume incontrol cannot be retro-fitted unless anyone knows differently
The idea of waiting for a sept/oct build with new satnav did cross my mind but by that is a never ending game if you are not careful 2010 997 Carrera S

My dealer told me that InControl can't be retrofitted, which kinda makes sense imho

My assumption in ordering InControl is that it will meet the requirements of an insurance company wanting a tracker device fitted. It would be a PITA if having spec'd it, it needed something else on top. The cost is about the same as other cars and time will tell how useful the other stuff is. Mark

after all that my dealer has confirmed that Incontrol is now delayed until mid April build cars so for delivery May, I will miss it by a month
Tracker made no difference to my insurance quote so it will be just the apps I am missing. Time will tell.... 2010 997 Carrera S

Yes, that's what I've been told so have relinquished the March build slot to delay until April.

Wonder if someone would be able to hack the inControl system on the car and just unlock the car.

The way it functions, I assume, the car InControl has an IP address visible on Internet? Possibly it should be "paired" with specific iOS/Android device ID, so it could be accessed only from that device, but still...

In the clip the app showed the car was unlocked and that he'll "need to do something about that", suggesting you can't lock, or unlock the car remotely.

Yes, seems like that.
They have probably thought of the security aspect of the system.

Afaik the app is only for displaying status info, not for remote locking/unlocking, that could cause quite a security issue, indeed. It also looks like the rest of the interface hasn't changed yet (judging by the phone panel/screen) and that you'll be able to use a navigation app on your phone so you can leave out the hdd navigation.

Having said that, I have that currently on my Pioneer car stereo (2din unit) and to be honest, it wouldn't be something I would wait for, it's not that great imho since it makes your phone 'useless' when you use the app (the app needs to run in order to have the display on the main unit). It's cool for a moment, but I never really used it tbh
