Yes there is, just not available in the UK.

It puts the car in pretty much the same performance league as the V6 and V8 diesels though in an application like the RRS, torque is probably more important than power and it would probably not do as well in the "waft ability" stakes.

Its peak torque is lower than the diesel V6 and even that is developed at quite high RPM so to get the performance out of it, you would really need to rev the nuts off it, much like I have to on my petrol Evoque. Fortunately, the big supercharged V8 gives you the best of both worlds, high torque over a broad rev range starting only a little higher than the diesels and then extending higher to give much better overall performance, if that is what you are looking for.

Comes at a cost of course... Mark

Interesting. I knew they've launched one for the FF.

Engines I know of for the Sport are the TDV6, SDV6, SDV6/Hybrid, SDV8, and V8 S/C.

Poland 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Java Black

I met up with the opinion that the supercharged V6 is the successor to the old V8 without recharging.
Compared to SDV6 definitely has better sound, it is cheaper to buy and you can put him LPG after the warranty.

I'm thinking of buying the RRS just with this engine. After many adventures with delicate TDV8, I'm afraid that even more modern SDV6 it will cause trouble. Maybe it's time to petrol. Question

The V6 is used in the Jaguar F-Type in two states of tune and an even hotter version of the V8 is used there as well which presumably will be the basis of the expected RRS RS.

I do wonder what LR are going to do when the Euro fleet-wide maximum average emissions come in, IIRC in 2020. JLR have no small cars to offset the gas guzzlers, no hundreds of thousands of Polos to offset the Cayenne turbos. The Evoque has taken them over the 300000 cars per year which is something of a watershed. I think this issue must be a major headache for JLR.

Before then, the Euro 6 regulations for diesels come in in September 2014 for new type approvals and a year later for existing models. These regulations affect diesel engines only, the standards for petrol engines are unchanged. It will be interesting to see how LR respond and it's possible I suppose that the big V8 petrol engine may be forced out of production by future regulations.

There are hardly any V12s made these days and most companies favour turbo-charging over supercharging which is very fuel inefficient by comparison because of the amount of energy required to work the supercharger compared to what is essentially free energy in the exhaust gases to run a turbocharger. Mark

Yes, the RS will probably use the 550 hp V8 from the XJR/XKRS/F-R.

JLR also have the new 4 cylinder Hotfire engine that will go into the Evoque at least.

Yes, I read the 4 cylinders are going to be the first engines made in Wolverhampton, so the Evoque and Freelander will be the first plus the Defender replacement.

Were it not for Jaguar using the petrol V8 and markets like the US where diesels are very unpopular, I don't think the V8 Supercharged would be long for this world. I'm afraid it's beginning to look a bit of a dinosaur compared to the AMG twin-turbo V8s though and JLR have a way to go to catch up. Thoughts about an engine partner? Cosworth? Perkins? Mark
