Remap or not remap

Hi guys finally bought a RRSport after looking at many lemons i found a good one (touch wood) its an 07 3.6 V8 diesel.. do you recomend getting it remmapped to improve fuel economy and bhp or will this lead to problems down the line. Cheers Steve

If it's done properly, you shouldn't have any problems what so ever. Mine was remapped back in 2011 and has been absolutely fine.

+1, defo go with a custom map not plug and play, No 2 engines are the same and at least with a custom map it will work to your advantages and it will highlight any possible failures. A plug and play are preset and if there are possible failures this could do more harm than good.

Just as an example, my previous car a Subaru Forester sti, while on the rolling road being mapped it flagged up the fact it was running lean on full boost from 4,000rpm which would of ended in disaster, turns out my fuel pump was dying slowly, no plug an play would have known that, so I could of happily been giving it the beans on a track day for it to go bang! Also highlighted the fact my neutral position sensor was faulty causing Ecu errors, which was causing alsorts of mischief with warning lights etc. All got sorted and she was purring with nearly 400bhp,400 ftlb.

What's the impact on the cost of motor insurance? Are there any major insurers who will not insure remapped vehicles? L405 P400e Autobiography (MY2020)... Silicon Silver / Espresso

There are several Insurers that won't insure remapped cars, that also gives you a problem, as when asked if refused insurance you should say Yes, and it is logged on Insurance bureaus. If over 50 don't try Saga they won't touch remaps full stop.
Best to try specialist insurers. Wink and of course don't give reason for remap as, going faster! Rolling with laughter John

My insurer asked if it was a performance map or an exonomy one which i was a little suprised about as I would have thought by improving how efficiently the engine uses fuel you would always gain performance as a byproduct? I explained my bhp had increased by around 20 bhp (in my old car) but the map had been custom designed on a rolling road to improve mpg.

They agreed this with no change in premium and When I swapped to a range rover I asked if they would take the same stamce shouls I do it again and they said they would.

My Insurance Company quoted me extra £18.00 a year on my 5.0 S/C premium for remap, when I actually had it done and rang to inform them they said it was OK and no additional premium. Thumbs Up

There is only Evotune I would trust to remap a car in the Newcastle area and I dont think they do RR's

I drove from Newcastle to Lincoln to have my Sport mapped at Alive, cant recommend them enough
