No I haven't but I am surprised they have priced it at the same level as the Supercharged V8 petrol engine for the rather modest improvement in performance over the V6. True, it has the most torque of any engine on offer but like any diesel, it ultimately runs out of revs and you're on to the next gear. The V8 petrol engine meanwhile soars away with a glorious Spitfire-like exhaust note.

Why then would you not want to go for the petrol engine? If your reason is "economy", consider this. Over 50,000 miles, the car will cost you, roughly, £1 a mile in depreciation and 40p a mile in petrol, 30p a mile in diesel, say. Factor in the higher diesel servicing costs with large diesels, DPFs and all that and the advantage becomes smaller still. If that 5% improvement in TCO per mile is important to you, you shouldn't perhaps be squandering this amount of money on the thing and bolstering your pension instead.

[for clarity, my use of the word "you" is not directed at the OP, but at anyone kind enough to be reading!] Mark

The SDV8 is a lot better in the real world than the numbers suggest, it's not just about a 0-60.

But yes i tend to agree if you are a low mileage user why not petrol, but of course the petrol car will lose far more cash over its first 2-3 years. 2014 5.0SC AB

Still confused.

When i bought my TDV8 in 07 it was a winner by a country mile....

I have friends with the V6 and fuel is rubbish mine is way ahead.

But and a very big BUT is why is the new 4.4 only marginally quicker than the rubbish V6 Big Cry Big Cry  SDV8 vogue SE.

Surely the new 4.4 V8 with 8 speed box should be way ahead of the V6. My old 3.7 V8 with 6 speed box is more than a match !! What am i missing here Rolling Eyes  SDV8 vogue SE.

The V8 does rev that high though.

The V6 will go to over 4500 so has a wider power band.

Ok the peaks are not as high.

SDV6 already remapped to 328 and around 740 NM. Both are within a few of the V8, torque wise it is more.

Tboner.

Excellent someone who has both (lucky Censored )

So is it like the old days ?? Just sheer grunt at anytime Whistle

I only have first hand knowledge of the 3.0 v6 which was juicy and somehow lacking.

The figures for the SDV6 are obviously better but as mentioned already remapped.

Wonder what the 4.4 would be like after a remap Bow down Bow down Bow down  SDV8 vogue SE.

The V6 is also a couple hundred kg lighter.
