Is there anybody on here that have checked the distance between the wheels/tires and the suspension joints?
I would like to know if there is clearance enough for _proper_ snow chains on the new model.

LR messed up that detail on the D4, considdering this is a new chassis I hope there is plenty of room...

You can specify the traction devises for the rear wheels for up to the 22 inch wheels. Do they fit really, not sure.

Thanks, I have not tried the so called traction devices, but I guess they are worth looking in to as an alternative.

Range rover recommend the Spike Spiders i believe and i think they should be put on the front axle. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

Not for the 2014MY. They say rear axle only.

Have to say, if you were to fit snow chains, surely the front axle is better - steering and braking come high on my priority list... 2014 MY RRS HSE Dynamic

There are many different types of chains that attach in a number of ways, a fair few don't hook round the back...but LR will recommend the set that takes into account clearance. Mike

Similar issue was told a NO on the fronts . spoke to someone i know who works on tech at the factory was told the only way was to fit 20" slightly narrower rims and tyres to run front snow devices / chains, otherwise rear only ! poor design IMO, Problem is with a 4WD is getting going is not the problem it's stopping them and getting round corners.

So 20" with proper winter snow tyres is the way for me Vred wintrac ext's etc. 2014 5.0SC AB

How is it a poor design? The RRS was designed to accommodate up to 20 inch rims with a certain tyre size. If someone fits something larger than that then it's not LR's fault if stuff no longer fits.  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

aburgh ! A standard RRS wheel and tyre will not take chains on its front end ? !

Thought the 20" or 21" were the STD rims may be wrong and 22" are a pay for option.

The JLR LR005737 is the RRS, Disco , Freelander2 and RR traction system that fits up to a 20" rim from memory 2014 5.0SC AB

Have a read. They are classed as an alternative.

Yes I agree they do a diff job to actual chains, but if are desperate for something on the fronts then it appears a sock could be the only option, if they come in the right size.

Size of wheels.

The 22 inch wheel is an option in the uk. So 19/20 and 21 are the std sizes.

Ah, yes, in that case it is a rather odd decision on LR's part. But then they seem to have made odd decisions in lots of areas in the last few years of product development.

Maybe they've come to the conclusion that people in the UK who want to use chains are so rare that they didn't bother designing for them and just gave them the big shiny wheel choices they crave. A bit like the decision to drop the low range transfer box because people don't go off road.

19" will not fit a 2013 on car , will not clear the brakes as far as i am aware,

Just been into workshop and yes the Disco 3/4 snow stuff is that part number.

I still think good snow tyres are the best option but you can really only get in 20" at the current time which is the better option giving more tyre wall flex and more grip.

pain in butt is if you happen to drive to the alps for example there are many resorts that will not let you up there past the road patrols unless you have all 4 wheels chained up or studded tyres, Ok that is likely to be very few people from the UK but if you are in the EU and fancy a quick weekend in val etc it's a real pain in butt. 2014 5.0SC AB
