Roof Rails?

I bought roof rails for my Evoque simply because I think it improves the looks (not difficult, you Evoque-haters will say) but I've never actually used them to carry anything.

Any thoughts about them on the RRS? Mark

I have used them for carrying my bike , to move timber and to carry a roof box.

Yes, does need a little lateral thinking!
Start in the middle, slot one end in then walk around to the other side and push pull the bar till it fits, then you should be able to jiggle the bars to where there are slots further down.
I use a bit of silicon spray from the DIY store in the track, better than WD because there is no residue.
To remove slide bars back to centre.....
There is a lot of jiggling involved and takes less time if there are two of you doing it Whistle

Yes it turned out to be a difficult experience! In the end I opened the sun roof, stood on the front seats and did it from the middle. The feet are certainly not very user friendly!

The next issue is that my Xtender ski rack will not extend because there is a slight bow in the bars (both of them so I assume this is a design issue and not damage!) which means they are not completely striaght! I guess I will have to pack them when I get to Chatel, can't do it now because it will cause a whistling.

You would have thought that this should be quite a simple job! At least the snow chains (XXL K Sumitts) went on easily enough, but if I have to use them I think I will throw the car back to Landrover!!!! Big Cry

Are your cross bars LR originals?

Yes. I have Thule Whisper bars that I can't use because there are no feet yet (that I can find anyway) for them, so I shelled out for LR bars.

What have you got?

I went from the Thule set up to the non-LR original rails and bars off fleabay.
Big mistake, look the same as LR but quality is not good.
Just as well I don't need to use them too often.

Simon - this would indicate (for an older RRS anyway) that the bars CAN be fitted directly into the guttering on the car without the need for LR rails?

Well, I don't know I am afraid, I had an X5 for the Whisper bar and a D4 before that on which I used JLR bar and feet.

I guess if you have the correct feet feet the whisper bar will work as the bar itself is universal. I don't know about the rail, but if it is the same as the D4 there is a track in the gutter that fits the foot for the bar.
